Sam went to Constantine knowing that he saw demons and most demons had to brag about souls they had won. He looked at Constantine's apartment and didn't know if he could trust him. He had an important mission to do. He needed to bring Dean back from the depths of hell.

"Sit down," Constantine was hospitable to the tall, skittish man. "Tell me what you are looking for."

"I don't know if you'll believe me."

"Why wouldn't I?"

"Do you know about Dean's deal made at the crossroads? One person giving their life for another? After their time that the crossroads demon grants is up, hellhounds come and take them to hell where their soul is to roam forever."

"I have heard of crossroad demons but have not dealt with any," Constantine had his hands folded in his lap. He was calm, like he was talking about the weather or current events. Sam was definitely not calm.

"Well, the deal came due and they took my brother," Sam stated flatly. "I want him back."

"And you want me to--?" Constantine was confused.

"I want you to tell me how to go into hell to save him. I want you to help me save him."

"How long as he been down there?"

"Two weeks and three days. Seventeen days total."

"Do you realize how much damage demons can do in that short amount of time?"

"I don't care about damage. I just want Dean back. We can deal with the damage later."

"And if he's already a demon?" Constantine asked the question that cut straight to his heart.

"He'd be my brother first. Whatever he comes back with would be second to that."

Constantine just stared at the desperate boy. "Why do you feel the need to do this? Your brother has technically died. You could let him rest in peace and move on."

"But he's not at peace. He's in hell. He's there because I died and he made a deal to bring me back to life. I can't leave him there. I just can't," tears started to flow down Sam's cheeks.

"I will try to help you as best I can but you have to do everything I say. Just trust that you're doing it for a reason."

Sam nodded as he wiped his tears.

"I need a picture of Dean and something that he's worn that would have his scent on it. I also need a picture of you or something that would make him want to fight his way out. He'll need to gather all his strength from inside in order to do it. Can you get those things for me?"

"Yes. It should just take me a little bit."

"That's okay. I have preparations to make myself. I just want to clarify that who you get back from hell will be damaged, changed, maybe evil. Are you up to dealing with that?"

"Dean and I have patched each other up many times. Helping him now would be no different."

"And if he's a demon and killing innocent people? I know you would try to stop him or talk him out of it. But, what if you can't?"

"I'll destroy him," Sam whispered. "He wouldn't want to live like that."

"Just making sure you understand the full consequences of what you're doing."

"I understand. Thanks for helping me."

"It's what I do, Sam. I try to balance the good and evil. There are more beings out there than you realize. You'd be surprised."

"After all this is done and I have Dean back, could you possibly teach us what you know? It is so different than what we know for hunting. It might come in handy sometime."

Constantine nodded.

Sam left to find the items..

"Precious Sam. So innocent and trusting. I hope this endeavor doesn't hurt him too bad."

Sam went back to the motel and found a picture of Dean. He took Dean's leather jacket because it would still have his scent on it, unlike Dean's t-shirt that Sam had taken to sleeping with. For something to motivate Dean, he brought a picture of the two of them by the Impala. He hurried back to Constantine. Dean had been in hell long enough. It was time to get him out.

Constantine took Sam to the seedy side of town. He used a phrase or password to get into a bar. They reached the office of a big man downstairs. Sam was instructed to wait by the desk while Constantine and the other man went into another room. Sam had already given Constantine the items he'd brought.

The sounds Sam heard, screams that could not be human, almost sent him into the room after Constantine, but he'd promised to stay. Constantine was his last hope for getting his brother back. He's better do as the man said.

After what seemed like eternity, Constantine kicked the door open and walked in carrying Dean. "Get us a cab," he told the man beside him. "He's hurt. How much do you have for first aid supplies?" Constantine asked Sam.

"Plenty, I think," Sam replied. "We've stitched each other up many times."

"I hope you have a tough stomach, Sam. This isn't going to be easy," Constantine told him. It was then that Sam noticed the blanket Dean was wrapped in was showing blood soaking through.

"I'll be fine," Sam said as he steeled himself against what he was going to find.

At the hotel, Constantine laid Dean down on a bed and Sam went to work.

"My job here is done," Constantine said. "You remember your promise, Sam."

Sam nodded.

Constantine put the pictures and leather jacket on the table. "Good luck. I'd like to see him when he's healed."

"Sure," Sam had the water to clean Dean and everything necessary to clean and stitch wounds.

"Hey, Dean," Sam talked to him even though Dean's eyes were closed. "I'm going to fix you up now. It's going to hurt but I'll be as gentle as I can."

Sam opened the blanket to find long cuts from claws that had just sliced Dean to shreds in places. Sam wondered if he would have enough thread to stitch him up. So, he called for backup.

Bobby was on his way and no posted speed limit was going to stay between him and the boys when they needed him.

Bobby arrived and Dean still hadn't opened his eyes or made a sound. Bobby brought in his first aid kit so they had more supplies. Dean was cut everywhere.

"How long has he been like this?" Bobby asked.

"Since I got him. I keep talking to him, but he doesn't respond.

"Just keep talking to him," Bobby suggested. It might take awhile to break through."

After hundreds of stitches, they were finally done. They had rolled him over and stitched the long cuts along his back, too. They added antibiotic ointment and bandages to them. With all those stitches, they didn't want Dean catching them on anything.

For some reason, there were no cuts on Dean's face. Sam counted that as a blessing. It was most likely because the demons just liked the look of his face.

Bobby went back to his room when they were done with patching Dean up.

"I'm in the next room," Bobby told him. "Just get me if you need anything."

"Sure, Bobby. Thanks for coming."

"Never need to thank me, Sam. I'll always be here whenever you boys need me.'

Sam watched Bobby leave. Then, he turned back to his brother lying broken on the bed. Sam got a glass of water and some aspirin.

"Dean. I need you to open your eyes, Dean. I can give you something for the pain." Sam sat on the bed beside him. "It's just me here, Dean. You need to open and swallow some pills."

When he didn't respond, Sam tried to open Dean's mouth and couldn't. At that instant, Dean's eyes flew open full of panic and he started to thrash around.

"It's just Sam. You're safe now," Sam used his body to hold Dean still so he wouldn't rip his stitches out. He kept his face next to Dean's, looking into those confused eyes, trying to convey comfort, safety and love.

When Dean's thrashing stopped, Sam wondered why Dean hadn't made a sound for as riled as he was.

Sam touched Dean's lip and saw a tear fall down the side of Dean's face. "I'm just going to look."

Dean laid there, still, as Sam gently pulled out his lower lip. Sam tried not to gasp as what he'd found.

"I need to get Bobby," Sam said and Dean grabbed his arm like a vice. "He's right next door. I'll call him."

Dean let Sam's arm go until he was holding Sam's hand.

"Hey, Dean. Nice to see you awake," Bobby walked over to the bed. "What did you need me to see?"

Dean squeezed Sam's hand and closed his eyes as Sam showed Bobby what they'd done to Dean. Not only had all his teeth been pulled out, his gums were stitched together tight with some kind of wire. Most likely to keep him from making a sound.

"We can fix this, Dean," Bobby ran his fingers through Dean's hair. "We can make this all better. I just need to grab some things from my kit.'

He was back in a moment. Bobby pushed along Dean's jaw. "Does any of this hurt?" Dean shook his head. Bobby pushed the joint. Dean shook his head.

"Sam, I need you to hold Dean's jaw in place. After I get the stitching out it will probably drop open and we went to prevent that. We'll use the bandage to tie Dean's jaw until the muscles get stronger. I'll make a run for some strong antibiotics and pain killers. We'll get you fixed up, Dean, good as new."

Dean just looked into the eyes of a man that he trusted and left a hand on Sam's arm so he wouldn't get disorientated again. Once the wire was out, the soft cloth was tied on the top of his head cupping his chin. Bobby left to get the medicine and Sam just laid down by Dean because he could tell he was hurting.

He ran his fingers through Dean's hair and kissed his forehead. "I'm so happy we got you out, Dean. It was all I could think of. Getting you out."

Dean leaned into Sam's hand, marveling at the feel of Sam's skin.

When Bobby returned, Sam helped Dean take couple sips of water while Bobby readied the shots of antibiotics and painkiller.

"Okay, Dean. Bobby's going to give you a couple of shots and then you'll fall asleep," Sam looked into Dean's fearful eyes. "I will be right here, Dean. I'll be sleeping by you and Bobby will move his things in here. We're not leaving you alone."

Dean held Sam's eyes with his as slowly nodded.

"We love you, Dean. We're not going to let anything happen to you."

Dean closed his eyes as the painkillers took affect. Sam played with Dean's hair until he heard his breaths even out.

Knowing he was asleep, Sam asked Bobby," Do you really think we can help Dean?"

"Depends. Do you think he died in hell? If so, how did he come back to life?"

"The hellhounds might not have killed him? He's been alive in hell for seventeen days?"

"I don't know, Sam. All we can do is wait."
