I assume unlocking means being able to use your Verizon plan phone with a Rogers account of something akin to switching your iPhone from AT&T? That's bull, you do actually own that phone.
The CD thing has long been you own the plastic but not what's on it, you've bought permission to listen to it in certain circumstances :P Intellectual property right can reach into the absurd. I wonder if Apple will say anything.. or not since it would make iTunes and similar the only legal way to put music on your iPod.
I like how the technology to convey,display media is cutting edge but the production industries are still frothing about vhs :p
