My San Francisco film-acquaintance sent me a list of his favorite films of 2007. I responded:
Larry,
I've seen most of those you mention and will include some of them on my list which I post on my LJ. I don't do 10, just a "bunch of the best." My "year" is based on dates of area openings. Some I want to see I haven't gone to yet, such as

Notes on a Scandal -- I watched it twice in a row. I really enjoyed that one. There was a discussion in a community on LJ about whether or not Dench's character was a lesbian. Interesting.
I really want to see Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, but see, my brother looks EXACTLY like PS Hoffman. And I heard there is a nude scene. I'm a little on edge about that one.
Probably can't see Sicko. I have been at the mercy of the system and I have also heard that this movie will make me cry. I get nervous knowing I'm going to be sad at a movie. Sad in an angry way, if that makes sense.

It opens with Hoffman's butt in action in bed. Or maybe it was a body-double.

On the positive side it is very striking in portraying health care systems that are top-notch, such as those in France and England. Also there is a great deal of humor in the movie despite the serious message. The ending is a hoot.

I was just surfing a bit. You can't imagine my surprise when I came upon a picture of the Colacone family, 1949, in Panni!
My grandfather was Donato Colacone, who emigrated from Panni in 1909. He and my grandmother, Filomena DeCotiis, had 3 young children at the time. She followed with the children 3 years later and all settled in Watervliet NY, on the Hudson River, across from Troy.
Hope to hear from you or other Panese. dcalacone@yahoo.com

I'm glad you found the 1949 Panni photo, which was taken by my mother's cousin Saverio Colacone when he re-visted Panni in 1949. I remember this because I was just a seven-year-old kid when my parents, with me along, accompanied him to the airport in Boston. My mother was Carmela Colacone, daughter of Antonio Colacone and Maria DiFinis Colacone. You can see pictures of them in my "grandparents" journal link below.
We must be related.
