Vacation dreaming

Since Rob doesn't like to fly, he&V both get carsick, and I'm sort of sick of driving, I'm contemplating Amtrak for our next vacation.  The Hartford Amtrak station is about 5 miles away, so getting to the station is easy.  The trick is finding a destination that is easy and fun for all 3 of us.

How about Philly? As I recall, the trip by trian is about 4 hours, with a transfer in NYC. Lots of cool stuff to do there!

That's worth looking into -- definitely has public transit! And as many times as I went there with the band in college, I never did get to do the proper tourist thing.

Philly's good. For a short visit, there's Princeton. anonymous August 27 2010, 00:00:20 UTC
Canoe on the Delaware and Raritan Canal. Lake Carnegie. Art museums. Palmer Square. Thomas Sweet

Amtrak to Penn Station New York (or Newark), NJ Transit to Princeton Junction, then the "Dinky" over to Princeton proper.

Minor adventure.

Could also then get back on the train to Philly. Also, Baltimore?

How's public transit in Princeton? Would we be able to manage it with a 3yo?

Baltimore I'd have to think about -- we drove down last year for a family wedding, Rob got food poisoning, and we had some hard feelings about the trip home. (That's putting it mildly...if we weren't both repressed New Englanders we could have been yelling at each other and throwing things.)

So what are you up to these days??

Yes, that is another good point for making it a short trip!

Walking around is a plus -- and the 3yo doesn't have to be strapped into a carseat so if she gets tired she can snuggle up to a parent or lay out on an empty pair of seats.
