I love you, Gil.
And you (and Gilly) are entirely right about BBM being about LOVE and not only gay-love. It was about love- about the power of it- and the tragedy of it, if it happens to be unrecognized.
And by the way, you should definitely make the time to read Lori's BBM fanfic- it is up to her usual standards and is my latest addiction. IT also, I think, makes the movie/short story's ending that much more poignant because you really get a sense (which may be difficult just from the movie) of how deep and sincere the love between Jack and Ennis is.

As for the acting- well, if I ever had doubts about how good an actor Heath Ledger is, they were forever put to rest. Not just a pretty face (although he is definitely a very pretty face). Jake Gyllenhaal was good too, as was Michelle williams (but I do think that Rachel Weisz deserved her Oscar).

Actually, "Brokeback" DID win at the Golden Globes for Best Drama. The "Crash" momentum started up when it won for Best Ensemble Cast at the SAG awards.

Sorry, this is nothing to do with your post (and to be honest I couldn't comment as I haven't seen BM), but I've friended you. I found you through bingblot and I hope you don't mind. Once upon a time, you used to write the most wonderful, complimentary and squee worthy reviews of my fanfiction! It would be lovely to catch up with you again. :)
