The night before the wedding I met with my best friends at Park Hayarkon for a Bachelor's picnic, with Pizza, Cola & Chocolate - my three favorite foods.
It was fun and amusing but always in the back of my mind i thought of Miri, which was at the Mikve that evening. i was worried she'd hate it, but turns out she kinda enjoyed it, with all the aunts and friends and other women all around her.
After the picnic i drove north and stayed over night at Miri's brother's house ('cause you're not allowed to be with the bride the night before...).
I was excited, but very tired and went to sleep almost instantly.
I woke up early next morning, my wedding day. I was very excited.
Miri went to the salon to get dressed and maked-up and hair-styled, and i had nothing to do but wait. I read a book (Chasm City, by A. Reynolds - good space opera/action book) for an hour or two. Then watched some movie channel on TV (Bubble boy - a lovely romantic comedy; and The Money pit with Tom Hanks, about a couple who buy an expensive house which falls apart).
Miri brother's came around noon and we just played some "Who wants to be a millionare" and talked on stuff.
We kept calling to ask when is Miri ready. but they didn't expect her to be ready before 15:00. In the mean time, i got myself all clean and dressed and ready. I got more and more excited.
At last, she was ready and Miri's oldest bro, Avi, drove me to the salon (he volunteered to be our driver for the whole day. he even rented a car for that, and my sister decorated it).
We bought flowers on the way and then i entered the place and waited for my bride to appear behind the curtain or something.
They put background music, supposedly a romantic song, but alas it was Maya busqila's Layla Stavi (see
here to get a feeling of our response to that song).
Anyway, Miri came out and she was so beautifull that my heart nearly burst out of my chest and we hugged and kissed and went to the car to do our "album pictures" and joked about the song all the way.
The weather was wonderfull - not hot, a bit windy and cloudy, which is what we hoped for for the outside photos.
the photographer took us to Park Hakishon near haifa airport and sea port, and we made poses to the camera, which both Avi and Tal, my sister who also accompanied us, didn't realize we had in us.
The photographer is very proffessional, and he was pleased, as we were of him.
It was fun.
We then came back to the salon for last minute repairs (makeup, hair, and the dress's clip at the neck kept opening up), and then on to the garden/hall - Ganei Haatzula. maybe you've heard about it on the news lately. luckily, we didn't hear the entire story untill after the wedding. i'll tell it later.
Anyway, we just waited in our room till the rabbi arrive and we can start the wedding. we had food, and comfort and nagging family.
then the rabbi came and i signed the Ketuba (1.8 million shekel) and we were ready to go. Excitment went higher and higher, only a little marred by the fact that someone parked behind our car so we couldn't drive to the entrance till it was cleared.
But then we went under the Khupa, and all the excitment just washed away. I felt totally un-excited and just a wee worried that i'll do everything right and not fuck up (like drop the ring or not break the glass).
And then...
And then it just felt that we're in a party for us. A party for which we are getting paid :-)
This was the longest ever that i danced, in all my life i think (except maybe 7th-8th grade class parties). And i enjoyed it. Well, most of it. The dancers and the singers tried several times to encourage us to do more bold things than just hopping about, e.g. climb on the stage, or dance with the professional dancers, sing into the mike, climb into a giant hose, limbo etc...
Of all that, we tried the limbo, and nearly fell flat on our butt.
At the end of the day, we were happy, tired and married.
It was indeed the longest day in the year :-)
Avi drove us to a hotel in Netanya, and i'll tell you about that, and the past week, at the next entry.
Thanks you guys who came, and flew bubbles at us.
We had fun, and we're happy.
