Come to where I'm from.

After last year's fiasco that ended in drenched clothes, bruised ribs, and broken PINpoints, Gale is determined to make this year's holiday go a little more smoothly. Maybe. His idea of a romantic outing this time is still two, maybe three parts Unconventional to one part Potentially Hazardous. But this is something he wants to share with her ( Read more... )

It takes her a moment to take in all that...grey. Then the rest of it catches up to her. She makes a small sound not unlike 'nngh', bringing her hand up to her temple for a moment before getting it, whatever it may be, under control.

"I suppose, based on my headache, that this is..." She pauses to look around again. More grey. "...The Junkyard?" She sounds very, very confused. Not unhappy, just confused. "But how? You said it was deleted."

"Yes, however, I have a suspicion it may not be my Junkyard. It is empty, and the databases are lacking any information dealing with the tribes or the Atma."

He looks across to the tower, reaching up into the sky until its form is lost in cloud. "It is a battlefield without soldiers."

She nods, following his gaze. "There's nothing alive here." Except for them, of course.

"What's that tower? The Karma one?"

"Yes, the Karma Tower, the supposed bridge to Nirvana. After we defeated the rival tribes, we were allowed to ascend it. As you know, we found the Nexus instead. Unless, of course, that was always the intent." He smiles at that. Nexus = the promised land? LOL, indeed.

He points out some of the surrounding landmarks, lights glowing like bioluminescent growths of bacteria on a petri dish. "Muladhara is behind us, the only subterranean base . . . And if you look north you can see Manipura, the Maribel base. To the east, the Vanguard's base - Svadhisthana.

"I thought I might show you Muladhara today, seeing as it is . . . home."

Gale seats himself on one of the benches pushed against the wall, and gestures invitingly for her to sit with him. He clasps his hands in his lap and pauses for a moment to organize his thoughts. "I should begin by explaining that in this simulation, all of the AIs begain with a certain level of equality . . . or potential. Like bees in a hive, they could become workers, drones, or queens, to put it simply. Most of the AIs served their time as workers, myself included. All unquestioningly, and with no aspirations to attain a higher rank, only the will to destroy the other tribes for their queen bee ( ... )

A few seconds more of looking around the room and Victoria takes a seat next to him, listening. For a moment, she's reminded of Bhima's bee costume from Halloween, which, of course, leads to her thinking of Gale in a bee costume. She smiles at that.

"I'm glad you're the one that got lucky, then." And she leans over to kiss him on the cheek.

Gale takes a moment to ponder what could be that amusing, and he only comes to the conclusion that that smile could use kissing. In the present context, he almost forgot it was Valentine's Day.

He scrutinizes her closely -- left, right -- using either hand to tuck the hair behind her ears. "Good. Still there."

"Oh? What's still there?" She's still smiling, though now less from bees and more from kisses.
