I love how you always seem to explore the psychological issues that the characters are caught up in, no matter what the source material is.

And there's so much to work with in Tangled, with a girl who has no experience at all with relating to or understand other people and their motivations (or at hiding her own).

This was lovely. I really liked it, and I liked that you've done some things differently than what other people have been doing. For one, you didn't have her say "I love you more" (which I also think she would avoid entirely), and you didn't have her tell her parents about the hazelnut soup.

And you explored why it took so long for a Disney couple to actually get hitched. Lots of points for that! (And for the nod to the original tale with the Queen's cravings).

Oh! And an interesting fact: Rapunzel actually can't grow her hair out. She's stuck that way.

Thank you! Considering I spend most Disney movies over analyzing character motivations it's nice to hear my nerdiness isn't entirely silly.

Ha, there are so many reasons why it makes sense that they would hold off marriage. I'm very glad it didn't end in a wedding scene because I would have been unhappy if they implied she went from tower to marriage with no transition at all. SO UNHAPPY.

And thanks for the canon info! It makes sense given that one cut lock of hair but I just liked the mental image of Rapunzel choosing to keep her hair short as a statement (and she looks super cute that way).

It's not silly at all! These things have healthy fandoms for a reason.

Yes, I liked that too. There is a lot of adjusting that has to happen before getting married makes any sense.

I like the look, but it seems that most people think it's ugly. Whatever, it has meaning!

sob I heart Mother Gothel/Rapunzel's terrifying relationship.

It was really the most interesting dynamic in the movie for me. Very messed up by Disney standards.

It really was! And Mother Gothel never needed to do anything for Rapunzel (get her paint, etc etc) but she did, even considered leaving three days for it. And it was all to keep Rapunzel in the tower.

Man, one of the things I found utterly fascinating in the movie was Rapunzel and Gothel's relationship. Or rather how fucked up and scary it really is cuz the lady used Rapunzel, but was also her mother for 18 years and it's impossible to ignore that, even when faced with betrayal. And this fic showed that perfectly! Imp, you are awesome. ♥

Aww thank you. I'm glad it showed how it was really dysfunctional and awful but still defined a lot of Rapunzel's personality. I know Disney means happy endings but I think Rapunzel would be emotionally messed up from the whole ordeal.

Hahah, well Disney does mean happy endings, it just doesn't talk about how long it takes to reach it. In the meantime, messed up Rapunzel is totally canon for me.

Wow, that was amazing to read. You really nailed Mother Gothel and Rapunzel's relationship. It's unhealthy, but still loving, in a way. Lovely. ♥
