I think nothing summarises the difference between SGA and Sherlock fandom better than the fact that on the Sherlock AO3, there's a 86 chapters (and counting) long reader/Sherlock-character-of your-choice self-insert fic that's got 124 kudos.

Any complaints we make about the SGA fandom are hereby invalid forever more.

I'm not following that fandom but I find it hard to believe there hasn't been at least one, if not more, such fics in SGA? I vividly remember my biggest problem always being the most kudosed fics after all.

In that case it had to be a pretty early fic, because I've haven't seen anything like this since I was in the HP fandom.

I mean, I've definitely seen a lot of OFC/male character fics, but the popular ones have all been on FF.net (there are a few on AO3, but they've all been greeted with stony silence), and none of them have been of the "request a character and a kink and you'll get a chapter devoted to him doing those things to 'you'" type.

It does sound like a HP thing, yeah.

Considering SGA was mostly about Rodney who also was the identification figure, maybe there really was never such a fic.

I kind of get the feeling that's what Molly Hopper is for...

Wow, that's pretty impressive. I'm very pleased with Poirot fandom. I wish there were more stories, but almost all of it is quality.

There are definite upsides to being in a literary fandom.

Meh. I backpedalled out of the Sherlock fandom so fast that I don't really even know. I rarely read any fic these days that isn't recced to me.

The Lestrade fans are a pretty decent bunch (a bit high strung, but then 6 months of NOT MY DIVISION jokes would make me tetchy too), and I try to avoid the rest of the fandom as best as I can. What I've seen has not been flattering.

Well, on the other hand SGA is famous for its trolls, like the girl who kept posting these weird, convoluted requests in the fic finding community and then made fun of the fics and of the people who went to great lengths to find them for her and was oh so proud of her trolling. So, every fandom has its weirdos and their supporters.

Oh, SGA fandom could definitely be obnoxious too. It was just obnoxious in a very different way. It was full of academics who thought they were too good for the show. Sherlock fandom is a lot more earnest, possibly because it skews younger, and possibly because tumblr encourages overwrought reactions in a way that LJ doesn't.

Apparently Sherlock failed to win any Emmys last night, and you wouldn't believe the wailing and gnashing of teeth that is happening on tumblr because of it. I'm trying to imagine SGA fandom, when it was at its peak, reacting like that, and failing. We were altogether too cynical for that.

PS: Happy Birthday!

Thank you! :) I think people are so angry because Sherlock actually had a shot at Emmy since it won so many awards already. I don't care myself but I can understand the disappointment.
