I got it from my friend scarybaldguy, who lives under the careful supervision of three cats, one a rescued feral. I don't have any money to contribute to the cause, so the only thing I could do was to spread the word, which I did via LJ, Dreamwidth, and emails to a bunch of people I know in other contexts. And I'm now following their LJ - it just updated today.

I don't know whether the project is still ongoing, but she was deliberately breeding cats for intelligence, proto-language, and social skills - and the next step was going to be opposable thumbs. (Obviously, since the human race still exists, she hasn't succeeded yet.)
Wow, I'm just *floored* by this... :o( Impressed as hell by this guy's selflessness, and aghast at how the local politics (and I suspect he's pissed off a lot of his neighbours and their concerns about "property values" and shite of a similar nature -- country dweller or not, neighbours are neighbours whether they're 10ft or 10k away) have treated this effing saint... :o(
