Sounds like an interesting community, I'll check it out!

Ugh I HATE that "like" feature that's threatening to turn LJ into a superficial thing like I assume Facebook is. Someone once "liked" a post I made and I couldn't even see who it was. I use an LJ layout that doesn't show that feature, and if I like a post I'd rather say so in a real comment. But that's me. :)

I hear you. I checked to see if that was possible, but it isn't, else I'd have done it.

I only just changed my journal to a new format, whch I do periodically because I am easily bored, and hadn't even noticed the little heart until a friend used it. Personally, I like it because even if someone doesn't have something to add, they can at least tell me they stopped by, read, and liked what I said. It's only superficial if it's used superfically.

You get a lot of comments, Alex, compared to most. I don't. So, if now if I get a couple of likes instead of comments, what's the harm. What's to hate. I mean, I can see, that if your format doesn't support it, it would be strange not to know who liked your post. Still, for me, it works.

Livejournal isn't Facebook and never will be. Not to worry, I don't think. They are completely different.

Glad I was able to help! :D

The 'like' button only shows up if you are in the new format. I have stayed with the older one, so no like buttons for me. Sigh...

I only just changed my format, I do so probably four or five times a year because I am easily bored, and hadn't even noticed the little heart until a friend used it. Personally, I like it because even if someone doesn't have something to add, they can at least tell you they stopped by, read, and liked what you said.

I don' t tend to change mine unless I really get a burr under my saddle. Some folks enjoy having the option of a 'like' button while others aren't as keen. different strokes, I say. :D

I discovered long ago that friendships, whether through the internet or in person, are like everything else in life... ever changing. Sometimes you make a friend and it's for life. The connection is never broken. Sometimes you make a friend and they disappear, either slowly over time or suddenly. That doesn't make them any less valuable than your lifelong friends. Each person you interact with makes a mark on your life. I value every one of them. I agree with you 100% that making new friends in another forum is a good thing and I'm glad you found one you like. Never doubt that there are folks here that care about you too, including myself. I often post and receive very few comments if any, but I can tell by my Stats page that my posts are being viewed by plenty of folks and I completely understand that they don't always have the time to respond. And sometimes there just isn't anything to add to what is in the post. I'll have to check out that LIKE feature. I knew nothing about it too. And yes, I'm a faithful Facebooker. ( ... )

All you say is just right. What I guess I'm trying to do now is develop friendships more based on something more substantial like RL & less transitory like fandom. Although I miss it greatly. I love to write and wrapping that around a pre-existing universe was so much fun :)

I was unaware of the stats feature. Your comment sent me on a discovery quest. Looks interesting! I will have to check that feature out more. See? Always educating each other. Perfect!

That heart thing is a good addition. I read most of the posts from the friends I have left here, but as you said, sometimes words are just not easy. I love a way to say, "I hear you. I'm here."

I've actually come across some writers that I missed during the original fandom. Some are very good. I'm not sure if they are new fans or old, but the fanfic has been a pickup for me.

I hope I'll always find some QAF people on livejournal, but we all need new interests as well. I'm rabble-rousing on twitter, since most of my FB friends really don't want to hear it. I'm glad to see that you and others of our fandom are politically active. It helps to know were are not alone.

Good wishes. Donna @Tawanda46 on twitter

Everything you've said I could have said. I'm glad!! And I'm glad we follow each other on twitter. Keeps it a little more personal than only following politicians, and local events, which I tend to do.

'I've actually come across some writers that I missed during the original fandom'
Who? Because I could use a little fandom pick-me-up too!

My memory is crap, but let me backtrack my histories a little and see which ones are new. I just finished reading one that I've reread several times and love every time. It's London's series. I thought he'd purged all his stuff, but I found it all archived on one of the sites listed on getithere. If you've never read him, I highly recommend. EXcellent writer.

I know I used to have quite an active twitter before I got involved with Bernie's campaign, but I swear, I don't know what the topics were. This political stuff has consumed my feed, now. I try to throw in some fun stuff occasionally, just to do my bit for balance and sanity. Humor is a survival skill and beauty should always be shared.

Chased down one writer I'd never seen before. S/he had 4 stories on this years gift exchange. After I read those, I looked for some more. Name is Lupin111. I hope this is the link to the master list page on LJ. http://lupin111.livejournal.com/

i think there are a couple of others, so i'll keep looking.

I don't like to use like buttons; companies follow use them to market products by following like buttons, at least on Facebook.

So I comment on what I like.
