LJ crossposting to FB/Twitter...A Work-around

Sep 02, 2010 09:47

Hi ya'll.

So, if you've seen all the ruckus about the new cross-posting 'feature' LJ is now offering you probably have an opinion about it one way or another. Personally, I don't want anything I post on LJ (original post, comment, reply, what-have-you) to be posted anywhere else unless I choose to make it so. I rather like my LJ being separate from ( Read more... )

So...everything I post on LJ will now automatically cross-post to Twitter and Facebook? Everything (see how out of the loop I am)? I know I already have my journal set up to automatically post my entries to my FB, but this is different?

Not automatically.

You will see a thing at the bottom of your entries and your comments (on yours and other journals) that says "Repost to" and there's a box for FB and a box for Twitter.

So, theoretically, anyone could cross post anything they say or you say just by clicking those boxes.

Which...no.

So this code takes it away from the comments boxes on your personal journal. You just have to be careful not to accidentally click one of those boxes when you're posting something you wrote (uness you want to). And it's going to mean being careful about what you say elsewhere, too, I'd imagine.

OH! Okay, I understand now. Yeah...I don't think I care for the idea of people cross-posting my stuff without me knowing it. It's one thing for me to do it, but totally another for someone else to do it. I think I'd like to have control--or at least have knowledge of--the things I post.

Thanks for bringing your mushroom of a friend up to speed!

Thanks for posting this but I'm buggered if I can work out how to do it when you are using one of LJ's own themes and not a cool custom one. Which means I may just have to find out how to design my own theme, doesn't it? :D

If you're using an LJ theme that means you don't currently have any custom CSS, so if you follow the steps above, you'll eventually reach a blank box for Custom CSS. Just copy/paste that code in there, hit save, and voila.

I tried that but it didn't work - however I've been told not to give up and try again, so I shall!! In the meantime I have already promised I shall never cross post anything - I think most people on LJ keep it totally separate from other parts of their virtual existences and enjoy the anonymity...

Hrm. Sorry it's causing you problems. *frowns* Hope it works if you do keep trying! :)

Thank you!
I was hoping there was a way to get around the pingbacks.
