You know Real Life is crazy when I forget the date SPN comes back after hellatus. I'm so glad I was reminded; this episode was an absolute delight. So, if you guys are still out there, I apologize for my tardiness, but between traveling to London and keeping up with work I literally lost track of dates and our show. Told ya it was good. A standout frankly. And yeah, that scene at the end when Sam had Dean in his arms basically cradling him.

RIGHT?? I loved it. I want to watch that scene again right now. It was like that moment in the episode where Dean killed Cain, and he comes down the stairs and his knees disappear and he kinda falls into Sam and Sam catches him -- fanfic beauty come to life.

I think it was Reiser and Biehn, from Alien! And someone posted a gif of that epic floor hug and I have watched it a hundred times. Lemme know if you need a hook up!

I think the bottle of whisky is the one Sam and Jody found in Bobby's stuff when they were trying to get Dean back from Chronos - it definitely had a message wrapped round it, and I'm pretty sure it was the same. Gotta love the continuity there (assuming I've remembered correctly!)

Like you, I really enjoyed this ep, and as usual you've encapsulated just what I enjoyed. All that back and forth between past and present could easily have clunked but didn't - lovely editing and delightfully presented. When Dean's eyes met Bobby's... :)

(I have to say, though, if I hadn't read about the renewal I'd be starting to worry - everything this season has a sort of nostalgic feel to it - revisiting old friends, brothers reunited, S1-style MOTW eps. It just is exactly what I'd expect if they were shutting things down - like going round switching lights off at night. )

yes you are absolutely right! It is the same whiskey Jody finds which they drink afterwards. It has the note Rufus left on it as well :)

Oh, of course!! I totally forgot about that -- you're right! :)

It's a good point -- and when they DO eventually wind down, I hope we get some of that so we have some good reminders and memories to take with us.

I loved this ep too!!! The beautiful cinematography (that shot of the research table from above as it shifted seamlessly from Dean and Sam to Bobby and Rufus), the boys working together and being honest with each other, the creepy feel of the case with those black mouthed 'sad people' - just all of it!

And I adored the tie with the bottle of Blue and that old ep with Jody and Sam! *happy sigh*

I'm glad you enjoyed this episode as much as I did, Gaelic. I loved reading all the great things you had to say. I totally agee with everything you said. Robby Thompson knows how to write and is now my favorite writer for SPN.
(I'm not including fanfic writers. You hold the position of favorite writer there.) A big plus for me was that the hunt took place in my city. Grand Rapids, Mi. I almost stopped watching to go find 207 Oak St. ;)

Did you also notice Sam and Dean walking in unison up to that house and matched movements taking out their F.B.I. ids to show neighborhood watch lady?

Hope you're doing well and are rested after your travels. Also it isn't easy coping with the loss of a loved one. Sending hugs. Thanks for "The Ramble."

I loved that in-sync walk they do -- it's fun to watch their difference in height not matter a bit as they step together like that.

I'm working on The Cave now -- was sidelined a bit by my trip and my crazy job, but I'm spending some time on it this weekend. :) Thanks for your interest! I hope you'll enjoy.
