That QAF Reboot

Sep 25, 2022 03:52

Remember that reboot of QAF that was oh so politically correct
that they wanted nothing to do with Our Boys?

Well, it's canceled.

One short season and out.

Any thoughts?

qaf, rebbot

Well, my initial reaction when the “reimagining” was announced was that it was just a “Gay as Blazes”. How ironic that they could not see what it was and that they didn’t even watch any of the previous 2 versions, despite having Russell Davies’ input. I appreciated the diversity, but they could at least have included some of our actors. That is, after all, what we had been asking Showtime for. I had received a survey of this new version and I let them know my opinion on it. Did you get the survey too? I hope you’re feeling better now.

I think they believed they were "above" using any of Our Boys. The attitude was so condescending that it turned me off.

And Peacock is a disaster. As a "Days of Our Lives" fan I can say that without fear of contradiction.

OMG - I can't believe they moved Days Of Our Lives! My mom used to watch it all the time. I didn't have time but would always watch it with her when I was visiting. I can't imagine them being so clueless about their market.

Ratings for the news show they replaced it with are disastrous.

Not surprising. I appreciate that they were trying to diversify the cast, but they totally missed the mark on a "reboot."

I couldn't get into it. Couldn't connect with the characters. Said I wasn't going to pay for Peacock to watch it but got a deal. Not going to miss it.

I'm not sure why they even did this show as a reboot, it could have been called anything else. The only thing that was the same about it was that there was a gay club called Babylon. I did appreciate the diversity, but it wasn't the kind of show I wanted to tell my friends was "so good, go watch it!" There wasn't the same feel of friendship or family to it. If they would have included good storylines and had at least some of our original cast, it might have done okay and renewed for a second season. QAF was a very successful show for 6 seasons. It just seems like the new version didn't have a whole lot of effort put into it.

Hi my friend I hope you're doing well.

As for that so called reboot being canceled- I've never even watched it because it had nothing to do with our show, except for the title which I thought was very annoying.

ETA:

I still believe that if they wanted a more diverse 'reboot' they should have gone with something similar to format of The Fosters which Peter so beautifully created back in 2015, adding to it the POV of some of the younger chacrters, such as Gus and JR who would now be 18 and 22 years old. But alas there were too many legal issues preventing that kind of a reboot. Plus from what Sharon Gless and other cast members said in some interviews they themselves approuched Showtime a few years ago, offering to co produce some sort of a reboot but the network bosses told them that the QaF fan base is not large enough and that it wouldn't be right to investe money in a reboot no one would be interested in. Ha! Go figure.

Do you think the door is now open for a decent QaF reboot, with our cast and our original charcter'as ( ... )

Unfortunately, I think this failure has doomed any idea of Our Boys coming back.

I'm one of those QaF fans who don't believe in the idea of a QaF reboot in the first place tbh. I created my own post 513/AU's over the years so seeing any other version on screen would be a bit weird for me. Having said that I think the idea of having a one off reboot with our original cast, who all still look great btw, and the younger/easrly teens characters' POV (same way Ron suggested during the QaF 10 years reunion at the TV festival is Texas in 2015) might have been interesting for me to watch. ITA w/ you, though that after the newsts format failed it seems unlikley to have another version. But we can always keep the love alive regardelss.
