Yeah, it would have been nice to have had some warning.

I usually use the live journal gallery for my fics here, but my mood icons were all on photobucket so I'm going to have to work out what to do about those. And of course for fics archived on other sites I've always used photobucket, so that's going to be a problem.

LJ's easy to use though. You can access scrapbook by clicking on this link.

I mean I guess I should be happy that the stories are still there,
but selecting the photos was half the fun!

Thanks so much for the info on the Scrapbook function. I've never
used it, but I will from now on.

The thing that kills me is that there was no heads-up about this. If
Photobucket had let me know this was going to happen, I could of
at least worked out something for the recent posts. I don't use
Photobucket for anything else but Live Journal, so it's basically a
dead site for me.

I'm especially bummed because the post for my Mom won't show her
pictures.

I know what you mean. Apparently they did post something on one of their blogs a day or so before (like who reads those?) but no emails, nothing until after they'd done it.

And I wouldn't mind paying a small fee but $400 a year is just ridiculous. Aside from professionals, who would do that?

Apparently it's affecting a lot of people who use it to host photos for ebay items, etc., and they are really really not happy. Especially about the no warning thing because they've paid their ebay fees to post the items but the photos for items aren't showing up.

No, I'd be willing to pay something. I have a paid LJ account
and I pay to keep my domain name, but seriously! $400?
That's ridiculous!

I think they have completely misunderstood a large segment
of their users, who are people like us, who are fans and post
photos for enjoyment and NOT profit.

If all they want is "professionals" using their site, then good
luck with that!

I bet the eBay people ARE pissed! I would be!

Yikes I just saw that it is 400 and year. I am tech challenged so I never used Photobucket. Unfortunately I have a dead computer full of my family pictures.

What PB did was horrible. Other than a "read our new terms of service" notice at the top of the page, there was no prior notification. A 'heads up' would have been nice. And puhleeze....$400 a year to be able to post to other sites? Ridiculous. LJ's scrabook is very user friendly, Gael. If you need any more info, just let me know. But they, too, have a GB limit. After you reach it, you have to pay. (Don't know how much, tho).

I'm using my Flickr acct. for now. I just hope the whole PB debacle doesn't spread to other sites. *sigh*

I have a Flickr account and some of my pictures -- a small
number -- are linked from there. But Photobucket was so
easy to use and for 13 years we had a happy relationship.

If I post pics from now on, it won't be that many. Ouch.

I'm also running low on storage space on Scrapbook, but I think the charge for more space is modest. I'm thinking now would be a good time to buy some more space before LJ starts thinking $400 sounds like a good deal...for LJ. FanSee

You know, it's the principle of the situation. Even if I had the $400, I wouldn't pay it. It's like being held hostage. Fingers crossed PB's "trend" doesn't spread to other hosting sites!

I've been using LJ's Scrapbook for a number of years now. It has worked well for me, but there are two problems I've encountered:

1.) You can't edit in Scrapbook, not even crop or resize. I'm been doing that in PB, then importing the picture back to my computer and from my computer to Scrapbook. An awkward and annoying work-around.

2.) Neither I, nor anyone I know, has been able to relocate pictures on Scrapbook back to your computer or to another cloud location like Amazon's or Google's. That means that if LJ goes belly up, my pictures go with it. I have quite a lot on here. FanSee

Fansee, if you add a pic to your Scrapbook for posting, you can resize it as you post. *g*

I have all my photos on my laptop so I don't need actual storage -- all I
need is a way for them to show up in my stories!

The loss of all the pics of Brian/Gale and Justin/Randy, not to mention
Ron and Dorian, and Sir Ken, and Diane, and Gus and everyone else,
is depressing. I feel like a big part of the enjoyment of the fics has been
wiped out all in a moment.
