Through the years I have seen many, many examples of private school students and faculty being less advanced than their counterparts attending public institutions. And as such I resent the continued public school bashing in this story and the country at large.
And how is Justin able to afford the tuition anyway? His living arrangements imply a comfortable payday, but hardly suggest enough expendable income for St. James.
I'm not bashing public education. I had 13 years of it and I'm a professor now -- and most of the other profs I know came from public schools.
Justin as a private school boy is canon. And Gus, living in LA would certainly have attended a private school, unlike Brian (Pittsburgh public schools) and Ron (Long Island public schools). The only other private school attender in the gang is probably Lindsay, considering her parents.
Gus is an entitled brat, no doubt, but St. James is something he has in common with Justin. It's a connection between them. Justin wants Gus to be happy by going to the school he likes and wants to go to, which is St. James. Not to say that Gus wouldn't be happy in public school -- eventually. Brian doesn't really give a damn where he goes -- his beef against St. James is the connection with Justin's bashing.
Justin can't afford the tuition, which is why he takes money out of his 401K. But he can't keep it up, which is why Brian will have to agree or Gus will have to leave St. James.
Both Michael and Gus got some reality check. To be fair to Michael, he does help a lot. Even in the series he grew after the first season. I love Debbie, her kindness combined with her no-nonsense approach makes her an exemplary person in my book. I'm sure Gus will eventually will come around, I mean how can you not love Justin in this story!? Really a great chapter!

See, I've never written Michael as a villain, which was kind of a thing back during the shipper wars when if you were pro-Brian & Justin, then you had to be anti-Michael. I see him as immature, especially when it comes to Brian. But the guy is in his 40's now -- he's got to grow up sometime!
