Here We Go Again!

Oct 03, 2009 15:20

It looks like I will need to find a NEW place to park my website.
I pray this doesn't become a yearly event, since it was exactly a
year ago that I was bounced by AOL, where I'd been comfortably
housed for ten years.

Midnight Whispers is consistently a good site. Even when they had trouble a while back, it was up and running again in days.

Magsnificent.com also welcomes writers and, again, consistently runs along.

What about your own website? You could count on a donation from me to get it going.

Anywhere you go, we'll all follow.

Sorry, that website comment shows how naive I am about how things work.

Although I am not a writer, I am an avid reader of B/J fic. I agree with mosieandbean regarding Midnight Whispers(http://www.midnightwhispers.ca/). When I want to re-read a fiction in its entirety I check MW to see if it is posted there. I have found a few familiar names on MW.

Just a thought.

Where are they hosted? I need a place for my entire
domain, not an archive site. I have too much stuff for
that.

You can buy your own space at Dreamhost for about $9/month. You get a lot of space and bandwidth, which increases every month you use them.

Then you aren't dependent upon anyone except yourself.

What software do you need? Dreamhost has a lot of free software to choose from.

Good luck. I'd love to see you up and running again!

I have no idea what software I would need.

Hoepfully, not much, since my computer isn't upgrade-able.

I was talking about software that runs the website. It runs on the server, not your PC.

Dreamhost does fine with FTP and if you're just looking for basic web pages, it'll work just fine for you. They also offer free Wordpress and a lot of other software on their servers.

That sounds like something I should look into. Thanks
for the suggestion.

What's Wordpress and what does it do?

bri-tin.com is new, it looks like an archive site...Edom posted something on LJ earlier today inviting people to join. Anyway good luck searching for a new location, hope to see your continued postings someplace---awaiting the "sequel" to BB&C someday :)
