Tough Decisions Poll: Angel

Mar 15, 2009 13:45

I've been asked (and persuaded) to do a tough decisions poll for AtS similar to what I did for BtVS. These polls will only cover S1-S4 because I haven't yet finished S5. Also, I've only seen the series once, so I may very well have gotten some details wrong in the overviews. Please let me know if that's the case and I'll correct it.

Thanks to gwtwscarlett, ms_scarletibis, snowpuppies, deird1, eowyn_315, stormwreath, and urania_calliope for their help, thoughts, and support on this one.

Also, a very happy birthday to eowyn_315. She's my fandom twin, so I hope she has a good one. :)

Moving on to the actual poll, AtS has quite a few more iffy decisions than BtVS does. If you've taken part in the BtVS polls then this format should be familiar. I'll list the decisions in question and then let you vote as to whether you agree or disagree in each case.

Angel decides to leave Buffy and Sunnydale in The Prom.

At the end of S3, the Buffy/Angel relationship is going along well. However, Angel is concerned about the difficulties of a vampire and a human being together. He eventually decides that it would be best for Buffy to not be with him and chooses to break up with her. In addition, he decides to leave Sunnydale to go to LA. This is all despite Buffy's strong protests against the break up.

Angel decides to destroy the Gem of Amarra in In the Dark.

The Gem of Amarra is a magical doo-dad that makes vampires impervious and allows them to go into the sun. After a struggle with Spike over the gem, Angel decides to destroy it in the thought that he best serves his purpose to the PTB as a vampire.

Angel decides to turn back into a vampire and erase his day with Buffy in I Will Remember You.

After being splashed with a little demon blood, Angel turns into a human, just in time to meet up with Buffy. They have a fabulous day together and are looking forward to their future happiness. However, Angel is disturbed when he's too weak as a human to help fight and protect Buffy. He goes to the PTB and gets them to reverse the day, making it so he never became human. This decision is made without consulting Buffy beforehand.

Angel decides to lock up the W&H lawyers in the wine cellar in Reunion.

Darla has been recently revamped and is out on the town with Drusilla. Angel discovers the two of them in a wine cellar breaking up a W&H party and ready to feast. Instead of rescuing the lawyers from the two vampires, Angel closes the doors and locks everybody in.

Angel deciding to kill Wesley for taking his son in Forgiving.

Wesley had been led by a false prophecy to take Connor, Angel's son, away from him. In doing so, Connor gets lost in another dimension, and Wesley ends up in the hospital with a slashed throat. Angel visits Wesley in the hospital and tries to suffocate him with a pillow.

Angel decides to kick Connor out in Deep Down.

At the end of S3, Connor had been manipulated by Holtz and Justine to kidnap Angel and trap him at the bottom of the ocean. After Angel is rescued, he confronts Connor and tells him to leave the hotel.

Angel decides to unleash Angelus in Awakening.

The Beast is going around causing some trouble for the group. There are hints that there's a connection between Angelus and the Beast that Angel can't remember. At first Angel is adamant that Angelus not be used. However, he's convinced by Cordelia (evil-style) to go through with the ritual to get rid of his soul temporarily so that they may talk to Angelus.

Angel decides to take the deal with W&H to save Connor and wipe his friends' memories of him in Home.

At the end of S4, Connor is suicidal and prepared to kill himself and others in his despair. Angel decides to take advantage of the offer from W&H and uses their resources to save his son, erasing his current life and giving him a newer, happier one with another family. In doing so, he also erases Connor from the memories of his friends and signs them all up with W&H without consulting them first.

***

That's that for Angel. As before, choose whether you agree or disagree. "Other" is for those pesky in-between decisions. And if you have no opinion, choose "No stance".

Again, if you feel anything was off in the overviews, please let me know. I'm working on very vague memories here. :)

And, as always, please feel free to discuss your choices.
