Wouldn't Willow also serve as a foil for Buffy in Season 6? (The comparison makes me think of Smashed/Wrecked especially.) So her Season 6 boost in numbers is what happens when one of the Core Four also serves as a Buffy foil.
I'm imagining that factor would interact with the insularity component somehow.
I swear, I was just now at this very moment scrolling through this entry and taking a closer look at the graphs and going, "Hmmm...maybe Willow might qualify as the Featured Character of S6..."
I'm all numbered out right now. I'll take a look at it tomorrow.
Just wanted to say that this is AMZING! And that a lot of fans are now wishing you had been around 10 years ago... (I mean, I'm sure they do anyway. But OMG the arguments it would have settled.) Go you!
Fascinating, though I was woefully adrift with the big number chart.
I wonder if one issue for non-Spike-fans is that once he arrived, Spike had consistently more to say than Angel did in S1-3? Going by the pie charts, Angel seems to be on 8/9% in the two full seasons he was a cast member of, while Spike is always around 12% from S4 onwards. So, while he didn't "take over", he generally said more than Angel did when he was the primary vampire personality. This is partly because of the whole broody thing, though - Spike is garrulous while Angel goes in for meaningful silences.

Good point. Spike definitely is more of a talker than Angel. It shows in his numbers.
