That Joss guy...
You know, during my time in Buffy fandom, my opinion of Joss, the man, has been all over the map. Sometimes, I think he's a fucking genius. Other times, I think he just had the good fortune of hitting all the right notes with Buffy and making a cult hit...but that his actual talents are largely overrated.
Likewise with his feminism. I happily embrace Buffy as a largely feminist series (with a few missteps, but hey). However, the rest of Joss' repertoire isn't as impressive. AtS is awfully anti-feminist a lot of times, Penny got fridged in Dr. Horrible, Firefly's up in the air, and my opinion on Dollhouse varies depending on which episode I'm watching.
So, for those of us who aren't still away doing holiday stuff, let me do a fairly informal poll on it.
Just a note that this is a poll about a real person. If you don't have a high opinion of Joss, please feel free to say as much. But please, please avoid crossing the line between "I don't like him" and "He's the devil incarnate who kills and eats babies in his spare time". Not liking him = okay. Bashing him = not.
As a note, the first question is about Joss' writing. In other words, just think of the episodes he's written and judge on that. The second question is about his showrunning abilities, as a whole. Think of the concepts he uses and his execution and such. And the final one is about his feminism. Is he genuine? Is he using his undeserved feminist cred from Buffy to get away with crappy stuff now? You get the picture.
