Buffy Came Back Wrong: Flooded and Life Serial

No clue what this is? Read the first post in the series.

"When you are depressed, the past and the future are absorbed entirely by the present, as in the world of a three-year-old. You can neither remember feeling better nor imagine that you will feel better. Being upset, even profoundly upset, is a temporal experience, whereas depression is ( Read more... )

Life's the Big Bad this season.

*nods vigorously*

S6 is so terribly depressing because Buffy's problems are so much more relatable. S6 highlights everything a person can hate about life. (This could be referred to as pessimism, if you wanna get technical.) I love/hate S6 and feel both of those feelings for the same reason: because it's so damn true.

Plus, fire? Pretty.

Stacks with the Buffy came back wrong theory. She used to say "Fire bad, tree pretty." *chuckles at own cheesy attempts at humor*

*wanders off to read the trio depression post*

S6 is interesting on many levels. It's kinda a case of Reality smacking the show full-on, which is so very unique for a show on the supernatural. As Joss as said, they gave up the fantasy metaphor. Yes, they still use fantastic elements, but the actual story is just told straight up.

Or just "Fire bad." *just watched Beer Bad...heh*

I love Beer Bad, but it never seems to get much love from the rest of the fandom. "Fire angry!"

I don't really have anything to say beyond nodding vigorously and perhaps occasionally pumping a fist in the air, but I thought you should know, I could kiss you for doing this series of metas.

You illustrate the relevance of the Trio's tests to Buffy's depression marvelously well. Thanks for this series and the links you provided to your prior posts.

OMWF is definitely a big turning point in the season. Buffy reveals where she had been. And Spike, with his song, becomes unsuitable for Buffy as a confidant. Instead, she'll turn to him in a different way.

Giles just kills me in S6. It's not OOC. It makes sense that he'd want to leave. But it's just so wrong. And so, so the worst thing possible to do. And, hell, even Giles admits that when he returns at the end of the season.

When I started watching Buffy, it hadn't been that long since I was in graduate school, but I'd gotten sick and had to leave. I spent nearly a year living with my parents again, and then ended up working cleaning buses for a year after that, before ending up a Cracker Barrel janitor for five years. I think I had just managed to get back into school before realizing I would have to leave again, because I couldn't get the classes I needed and was wasting money to no purpose ( ... )

Sleep's a funny thing. Stress can have a huge effect on a person's sleeping patterns. And when a person isn't sleeping well, they don't function well, so things just kinda spiral. Very annoying.

S6 is really the only season I can relate to Buffy. I love her in other seasons, but I don't really "get" her all the time. S6, though. Yeah, I have some idea what she's going through.
