Since you asked, I will tell you this is based on a behavior I have noticed in people. It basically was meant as a retort- typically, when people are irritated (and especially when they feel powerless) they tend to as seemingly inane questions as an attempt to either lash out or deflect any scrutiny that they feel might be on them at the moment.
