Really hot and humid. Not a good time to have it. What were they thinking??? Orlando in Nov is lovely and April, too. But August?

A friend of mine suggests that the time it took to settle the GenCon suit may have held the whole process up to the point that this was the best they could do. I'm rather hoping that's it, because it doesn't say much for their organization skills otherwise.

Well, I'll be going to Dragoncon so it's a no-brainer for me.

There's no rule that says they MUST have a Celebration next year. I know it's ESB 30th anniversary, but big damn deal. The only thing they have to pimp right now is the CW cartoon, and half of fandom hates it. Instead of planning something really cool, they seem to be content to throw something together half-assed, slap the SW name on it, and expect the loyal sheep to pony up the $$$$. That irks me.

I didn't realize it until Tim mentioned it, but this is 2 weeks before Dragon*Con. Alot of folks are going to be forced to choose between them due to work/finances. Not smart, LFL.

No kidding. Not a whole lot about this seems smart.

1. Melting, meeeeelting

2. DRAGON*CON

I can't afford either, but if I were to magically find the cash, it would be for Dragon*Con because it indulges MANY of my fandoms.

Exactly. For me personally, C5 is a better bet because SW is the only fandom I care enough about to attend a con for, but I know I'm in the minority of con-goers that way. I think C5 is going to have an attendance bleed-off, competing so directly with Dragon*Con like this.

For me it's a case of... yeah, I could go to the awesome Star Wars thing OR I could go to the awesome Star Wars and BSG and Star Trek and Firefly and and and... thing :p

I understand 100%. I think Dragon*Con's going to be the bigger draw for a whole heck of a lot of people, and I doubt many will be able to make both when they're so close together. Yet another bit of stupidity on LFL's part.

-Hot
-Humid
-Hurricane season
-the Heck?

Did they get a really amazing climate-related discount or something? I mean, I know going places in the off-season is cheaper, but huh?

So...to cool off, you must come to New Jersey afterwards. Right?

If it had been in Baltimore, absolutely. Even if it had been Indy or Chicago, Bri and I were going to try to meet up with Vi afterward and Bri was going to show me the Great Lakes (or at least Erie) and we were going to drive up to NJ for a day or two to see you and we were going to make a really awesome week of it. But Orlando? I'll be real lucky to be able to afford this trip at all, and any side trips are now totally out of my reach. This is one of the reasons I'm pissed about this announcement.

It only takes about 3 days to drive up to NJ from Orlando, you know...

...runs...

Agreed about the "ew", sadness about you being unable to experience the "ew" with me. :P
