I know, I only ever rant and rage about non-important, fandom related stuff but that's what I use this journal for, as people I know off the Internet don't share the same interests as me. XD

I have to admit though, I groaned a little when I heard that the new Spidey was half-black, half-latino. It feels like they're trying to reach a non-caucasian quota by making him two different races. I see that all of the time in TV shows, too, where 80% of the repeat characters are white males, so let's throw in a black woman to make it seem more even. It feels like something of a cop-out, but whatever, at least they are trying something, I guess?

I definitely get where you're coming from, it happens a lot, especially in TV. I think only cos it's Bendis, I feel like he had the idea but the higher-ups wanted to capitalise on it and that's why the reveal was spoiled in America before the comic came out. So that they can make a big deal out of it. Marvel's got a lot of problems, but they've been a little better when it comes to representing different races in comics.
I really hope that he does make Miles into his own character, because if not, the character will be written off in a few years and this will have been nothing but a publicity stunt. Much like regular universe Spidey revealing his identity to the world.

That's awesome how you can trust that author, despite the higher-ups pushing it hard to the media (honestly, I doubt it was a "leak," mostly because the main stream media doesn't have much reason to care about comics). I guess that's the business world--to make a buck, you've got to bring attention to what you're doing. But yeah, that would be very disappointing if Miles isn't given the strengths and personality that can make him a more lasting character compared to others. I hope your boy Bendis does good!

Oh yeah, it definitely wasn't leaked. They do this all the time! They did it when they killed off the Human Torch in the regular universe, even though the actual issue of the comic was in super-secret polybag as to avoid spoilers. ¬_¬ There was no point really! With Bendis, I think I trust him with it only because it's this book. He's been writing it for so long, and it's a big success so I don't think they can dictate to him what he can and can't do. He hasn't disappointed me yet on this book. If it was the regular universe, Peter's death would've been cheap or just for shock value but it ended up being really sad but sweet.
