In the grand tradition of 'what you'd expect from a beta-reader', this day's "Happy Post" is basically an tip of the hat, of sorts, to two of my most favored-and oft times, er... abused-punctuation marks:
EM-DASH
ELLIPSES

But it confuses me when the em-dash is used without spaces; you would never see that in a German text. And while I feel fairly able to adapt to all kinds of stylish questions, my punctuation senses have remained German. Lol. Maybe that's also because in English some people tend to use more commas than others, and each of my various betas corrected other mistakes. For example, some separate the "and" in a list with a comma while most don't. There seems to be some vague common ground, but apart from that ... I stay confused.
I tell myself that punctuation is a wonderful way to train myself not to be a perfectionist all the time. *g*

agreed. i've gotten used to it with spaces, but i just don't think it looks... nice.

i'm a big fan of the em-dash but i like putting spaces in between. i also have a severe [negative] reaction to ellipses with spaces in between!
