Rebecca walked through the surgical floor, sunglasses firmly away, white coat on, and a determined look on her face. Making her way to her new office, the one previously inhabited by her sister. Her heels clicked on the floor, making a reassuring sound, she had first heard when she heard Addison walking through the family house many years before.
The sound was familiar to many others too. The hairs on the back of Derek’s neck stood up. He spun around, and watched the red headed woman walk past him, Addison, he thought. But then he stopped, the walk, that walk wasn’t hers, but that doctor was the image of her, well from the back anyway. He was about to follow to investigate when his pager beeped. It will have to wait.
Her heels continued to click, past Izzie Stevens, Meredith Grey, and Cristina Yang who were all making their way to the pit. They all stopped and turned to see. Rebecca felt eyes watching her from many different angles. She smiled, she noticed the three women staring at her, and she smiled and nodded her head towards them. The smirk continued as she carried on walking past. God, I love this. They definitely thought I was her, oh but how wrong they are. Her new pager beeped, she looked down, and turned and made her way back towards the pit. Ladies and gentlemen, the bitch has arrived.
Dr. Bailey was directing traffic, as ambulances pulled up to the doors of the hospital. “Dr. Bailey, I’m the new OB/GYN attending, I was paged” British? Chief’s certainly gone out of his way to get this one, she must be damn good “Yes, yes, you’re needed over there” she said pointing at the curtained off area and glancing up at the doctor in front of her smiling. There is something awfully familiar about her…can’t quite put my finger on it though. “Dr. Bailey, another incoming”
“Oh yeah, right, what is it? Ok he can go over there”
Rebecca pulled back the curtain, to see another resident talking to the patient whilst holding her arms, trying to calm her down. “It’s alright Mrs. Adams, its ok, the doctor is here now to check on your baby.”
Rebecca could clearly see the woman had a fractured forearm and at least one pretty nasty break on her left leg.
“It’s ok Mrs. Adams, I’m going to check the baby now. But you need to calm down or you could send your baby into distress. Now how far along are you Mrs. Adams?”
“6 months” replied the woman through sobs of fear “Is she going to be alright?”
“I’ll do my very best for you, I’ve got a fetal heartbeat, and it all seems fine for now, but I’m going to check back in half an hour. Now Mrs. Adams, you must be in quite a considerable amount of pain, has Dr….Dr… I’m sorry I didn’t get your name”
“Torres” replied Callie studying the doctor.
“Dr. Torres, oh you must be Callie, I’m Dr. Rebecca Montgomery, and it’s a pleasure to meet you” replied Rebecca holding out her hand for Callie to shake.
Callie shook it, it complete shock. “Dr. Montgomery, as in Addison Montgomery, as in your related?? Oh my God! You’re her sister aren’t you? Wow, I thought you looked like seriously familiar.”
“Yes, Dr. Torres I am. But maybe we can discuss this later” Rebecca smiled and tilted her head towards the woman lying in the bed.
“Oh, yeah. Mrs. Adams, Dr. Montgomery is right you must be in quite a considerable amount of pain. I recommend some pain killers, and I assure you this is fine for both you and your baby.” Mrs. Adams looked to Rebecca who smiled and nodded. The patient looked back at Callie, and nodded.
“Ok Mrs. Adams I’ll be back shortly, and Dr. Montgomery will be back later to check on you to.” The two women came out from behind the curtain.
“So how is she? Have you seen her? Does she know you’re in the States?”
“Well, no not exactly. Look, don’t take this the wrong way Callie, but I have lots of work to do. But I’m willing to make a deal” she smiled at Callie just as Addison would have done “How about, I meet you in the cafeteria at noon, and I’ll fill you in, if you fill me in. I have no doubt Addie neglected to tell me half of what’s happened here in Seattle”.
“Deal” said Callie with her eyes gleaming, it wasn't everyday you met a friend’s sibling who was willing to dish the dirt, as they shook hands again, and made there way out of the pit in opposite directions.
Callie found an empty table in the cafeteria, she sat with her food playing with it. It had been a horrible day so far. First she’d woken up. Then George wasn’t there, there was just a note saying he had gone in early to see the chief, as he was still unsure about transferring to Mercy West, he had after all only just passed his re-sit exam. She had got stuck in the rain on her way to work, so when she finally got there she was cold and wet. There had been an accident somewhere in the city, and people were being brought into the hospital left, right and centre. An elevator had dropped several floors in one building downtown, and it was the pregnant patient that had allowed her the highlight of her day. Rebecca Montgomery. Callie pondered why Addison hadn’t spoken much about her, but from first impressions Callie could see that the two were alike, and this could only be a good thing. Callie missed Addison, she missed their chats, their sharing, and their friendship. Maybe, just maybe, Rebecca could offer the same things Addison had.
Callie surveyed the cafeteria waiting for the arrival of Dr. Montgomery when she saw, Yang, Grey, and Stevens sitting at a table in the far corner. Stevens, huh, she’s so smug. She makes out like butter wouldn’t melt, but she wants what she can’t have she wants George. Never gonna happen. The familiar clicking of heels came from the lunch queue, and grew louder. Callie watched as numerous people looked up to see yet another leggy Montgomery walking by. She should have entrance music. Thought Callie, smiling at her new found friend Does she know that people are staring or does she just not care.
“Hey, so weird question I know but has Shepherd been through here yet or Sloan?”
“Erm…no I don’t think so. Shepherd’s supposed to be in surgery for another hour or so, and Sloan I haven’t seen him since erm…I dunno”
“Good good, I don’t want either of them to see me just yet. I need to reacquaint myself with them, and I need to time to plan it.” She giggled
“So no one knows you’re here?”
“No just the chief, he called, we had a plan, and now I’m here, for a while at least. So what happened Callie why did she leave?”
“Well, that’s a long story. How much do you know?”
“I’m her baby sister Callie, she doesn’t tell me a thing I’ve had to second guess every phone conversation we’ve had for the last five years. And for the record, there are reasons she never informs me, one I’m as competitive as her, so you can see how that would work. Also, because she is my only family. I am incredibly protective, and inherited a rather nasty temper from my mother, that Addison does not have and has felt the brunt of in the past. I love her, but she’s an ass most of the time, and needs someone to push her her or fight for her.”
“Yeah, I can see that”
“You know it’s not through choice I’ve been AWOL these last few years, she’s been keeping me arms length. She never told me about her and Mark’s thing in New York, but I guessed, especially after two phone calls within a short period of time. Listening to her ball her eyes out while I’m in another country doing nothing is not my idea of fun. It was all she could do to stop me from coming here finding Derek and kicking his ass for not treating her properly, and Mark. Well the manwhore has it coming when I find him” she said her eyes narrowing, and the look Callie read from her face showed how much she was hurting for her sister. “Now, as I was saying I need to know everything Callie”
“Well… did she tell you about how they got divorced?”
“Wait, she finally signed?”
“She finally signed…no...No...It was Shepherd who was waiting around. They made another go of it, but he slept with his intern Meredith Grey she’s sat over there. No don’t look I’ll introduce you later. Then she tapped Sloan for a trans-continental booty call, and he ended up staying. They weren’t serious at first, and then he wanted to try, so they made a bet. No sex for sixty days.”
“Ha let me guess, she caved”
“Oh my God, everyone else that’s heard about the bet assumed it would have been Sloan. How did you know”
“Mark would never cheat on her again, not if he followed her here. He’s been in love with Addie for years she either just can’t see it or ignores it.”
“Dude, it’s scary how well you can read her. I mean I wouldn’t have guessed and I’ve seen her most days for a year before she left. Anyways, she broke it when she slept with Karev.”
“Isn’t he a new resident? I saw a file earlier saying he was possibly expressing a desire for my field. That explains why.” She chuckled.
“Yeah that’s the one, so they did the nasty nasty, and then he said she wasn’t his girlfriend, and she took it bad and went to L.A. She came back for a while to tie up loose ends but then she went back.” Callie said now looking down at her plate.
“You miss her”
“Like everyday. We had a thing you know? When she was shunned so was I, we connected. Plus I sort of slept with Sloan.” Callie said raising her eyes to meet Rebecca’s wincing a little bit.
“Oh honey, it’s practically a right of passage. Everyone sleeps with Mark”
“Even you?”
“Maybe” she replied with a twinkle in her eye “But if you ever tell anyone, I swear, I will hunt you down myself”
“Cross my heart and hope to die.” Replied Callie with a smile. “So, when are you intending on calling her?”
Rebecca laughed “Oh I’m not calling her. I’ll let the minions do that.”
“Derek and Mark?”
“Yeah, the plan is, cause enough of a disturbance, frighten the hell out of those two. They will call her and beg her to come and talk me round, before I do something drastic. She’ll come back, and then we’ll have to see what happens.”
“Nice plan, so how can I help?”
“Well these interns, turned residents. I need to meet them, I need to scare the living hell out of them, worse than Miranda does their first day. I need Grey to go running to Derek.”
“That might be easier said than done.”
