Callie was avoiding Erica, and had been since Erica kissed her jokingly on an elevator in front of Mark. The thing is, she’s not exactly sure why she’s avoiding the blonde. It was just a silly stunt. Right? But she had felt something…something good. It had felt like a spark of something new and the extension of something comfortable and familiar, but regardless of what she felt, she was sure Erica hadn’t felt anything at all.
“You’re avoiding me.”
She looked up from her bed in the on call room (okay, so maybe she was hiding too) to see Erica Hahn looking at her with annoyance in her clear blue eyes. The cardio surgeon folded her arms over her chest, clearly expecting her to say something.
“No, I’m not,” was all she could come up with. She silently cursed herself.
Erica rolled her eyes at the response. “Is it about the kiss?”
Callie blushed. “No,” she said, and then, “Yes. No, I mean no.” She groaned and buried her head in the flat, over used, excuse of a pillow. She lay there, face down, until she realized that Erica wasn’t going to say anything. When she looked up, the blonde was staring at her with an eyebrow raised in question.
“I should go,” she said while standing up. “I have…surgery.”
“Uh, huh,” Erica said, clearly not believing her.
Callie’s hand was on the doorknob when the Erica started talking again.
“When you feel like being an adult we can talk about it or…” The blonde trailed off and she turned around again.
“Or,” Callie prompted, not sure if she actually wanted to know the rest of that sentence.
“Or I could just kiss you again.”
She was pretty sure her jaw had just dropped open and she could feel her heart speeding up a little. Not to mention that fluttery feeling she was getting in her stomach. She licked her lips and the cardio surgeon seemed to take it as a good sign and moved closer.
“Okay,” she squeaked. And Erica pulled her closer, as if she knew she would say yes all along. And then they kissed and, hot damn, it was good.
“So, uh…you don’t actually have a surgery to go to, right?” Erica asked with a smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
She laughed. “No, I don’t.”
