I have to say, living in one of those countries, I do find it ridiculous how much of a stink the US makes of gays serving in the military. When the UK was forced by the EU to abandon its exclusion policy on homosexuals in the military by virtue of it being against the European Convention on Human Rights, every General and his boot-shining underling - and a great many civvies too - droned on about how gays serving in the Forces were going to do everything short of bring down the apocalypse upon us.

What the Forces got, instead of their nuclear explosion of harassment claims and the world almost coming to an end was a damp squib. Very few people in the UK give a shit. As far as most people in the military are concerned, gays in uniform are old news. And in fact, the British Navy actively recruits at Gay Pride events in the UK.

You'd think with the amount of wars the US starts and its forces stretched so thin after pissing most of its allies off for the past eight years, they'd welcome any person willing and able into the military.
