What a wonderful weekend! It began waytooearly Saturday morning, when Jonathan came by to pick me up and drive to Monterey. We procured caffeine and bagels with the spiciest, most delicious sundried tomato cream cheese, and headed south to the land of kelp forests.

I used to do underwater photography, back when I first started diving. All the pics I took are slides, so I need to find a transparency scanner so I can put some of them up. These are the only two I have online so far:

Did you actually get to see the sunfish?
I sat in that room for at least half an hour, repeating to Mom, Charlotte, and Charlotte's Mom, "No, really, I'm sure it will swim by ANY MINUTE NOW."

jwz and I were just discussing diving two days ago, and how we just can't bear the cold of Monterey. I said, "Yeah, but I reeeeealy want to see a sunfish!" and to impress upon him the truly bizarre nature of the beast, we sat and looked at pictures online...

The aquarium in New Orleans is also first-rate, if you ever happen to be there.

Yes, we did get to see it! Maybe it's less shy than it used to be, because it was hanging out near the front of the tank, looking squooshed like someone had stepped on it :)
