A year or so ago there was discussion on one of my mailing lists about going shampoo-free. This intrigued me because I like to use as few chemicals as possible* in my life, but I wasn't sure that it was right for me because of my hair type, and the fact that I use hair color. I wash with water every day and add a little bit of baking soda about once a week or every other week. Curls I didn't know I had showed up! It's great for traveling, as well, because I have less to pack.

It seems to be about the same as using a regular shampoo. I'm usually in salt water about once a week, which pulls the color out, but that's tempered by the fact I don't wash my hair that often.

What do you do after you get out of the salt water? Just rinse?

I'm swimming twice a week now at Stanford. I know they use salt and probably some chemicals in the pool, but no chlorine. My hair definitely feels a little dry after. Maybe just use the cider?

I just rinse it after getting out of the salt water. Actually, it feels okay before I rinse it, but if it dries with the salt in it it gets all gritty. I bet the cider vinegar would soften yours up.
