Our group has some pretty strong research links with the biology department, in particular the ornithology group. No wait this will actually end up being a funny anecdote, stay with me. Well there are a bunch of competing hypotheses. The Germans think it is all magnetic sensing, the Italians reckon it is due to the sense of smell and the Oxford group is pushing for visual landmarks. Of course it is probably all of the above, but you can only do one experiment at a time.
