TV Blackout

For some reason, I find this whole thing amusing. The language used seems to imply that losing television is some big national tragedy, that the "unprepared" viewers are in some ambiguous danger. I was similarly amused recently to see a story on NPR's website about the "real life account" of someone who's given up cable and is "roughing it" with basic tv.

OOhhhh.... how scary. REGULAR TV???? No cable!!!??? How will they ever survive?? It is weird to me how television has become a necessity in this culture, as if we would all die without it. I mean, it's not like it's the internet or something. ;<)

It's worse than I thought--I actually read the article in question, and turns out it wasn't about, so we started going outside, or even, so we started watching pbs. Nope, instead it's about how they managed to continue the same viewing schedule without cable, using hulu and netflix and stuff.
