I completely agree with what you're saying. And it's why I think Klavier works better as a fully-formed character. Edgeworth was definitely a character on a journey, thus it took longer to be attached to him. He might be more depthful, but that's a benefit of time. Klavier is instantly engaging.
Regarding their mentors, von Karma was always less intimidating to me because of his personality (I found it more sad than scary) and more intimidating because of his looks. I thought Kristoph didn't have that, but. He does. *shudder* They both terrify me. When I first saw Kristoph again, I felt a bit ill. Just in anticipation. :( Augh.
Yes, Klavier is definitely a much more self-contained personality, but at the same time, he isn't static; he does move and change in subtle ways. And yes, engaging. XDDDDD
vK's personality isn't scary, nope, and YEAH lol his looks are amazing. XDXDXD And goddamnit why is it that every time I look at/read Kristoph he gets sexier. :|;

Both acted out of impulses of revenge; both committed murder, although Kristoph's were much better planned out.

VK WASN'T THE ONE WHO FAILED TO KILL A LITTLE GIRL FOR SEVEN YEARS AND GOT ARRESTED IN HIS APPRENTICE'S FIRST CASE 8 | Although, technically, you could just make a case that vK was luckier and better at covering up his tracks, while Kristoph spent so much effort covering up his tracks that it actually... made him somewhat obvious. Really, the only place von Karma messed up was bringing the case up again and not trying to remove the bullet himself; Kristoph seemed to feel as though he had to eliminate everyone connected to the Zak case, which is what seriously screwed him over. I guess if you wanted to make a case for it, Kristoph is slightly better in that he's nigh-unbeatable without resorting to illegal means because he doesn't leave decisive evidence behind, but even if he'd have gotten off both times there probably would've been enough suspicion that he would have been ruined anyway

And what I meant by 'much better planned' was that Kristoph's was completely premeditated, while vK just kind of strolled into his. :p Admittedly, Kristoph failed a lot more because he was being neurotic about covering up (and probably also because he planned it so elaborately; the best-laid plans of mice and men, etc.), but again, vK walked into an incredibly lucky situation with almost no witnesses

I MEAN IT'S NOT LIKE I PLAY HIM OR ANYTHINGrandom_prophetSeptember 27 2008, 00:12:20 UTC
Yeah, that's what I was getting at |D vK seriously was really lucky there. Actually, I kind of get the feeling that a lot of vK's carreer was based on him not only being really, really good at what he did, but also having a certain degree of really good luck. ...which failed when karma delivered an Apollo Justice-level punch to the face to him via Maya saving the bullet. And yeah. vK's plans for Edgeworth were elaborate as hell, but for the most part... they worked, until the aformentioned face-punch by karma.
Well, it is pretty likely that a prosecutor getting shot would have been rather high-profile and having some doctor around who could testify about removing the bullet would be just as bad as keeping the bullet in his shoulder. vK probably just wasn't counting on facing such a lucky retard who gets bright ideas like taking his sarcastic suggestion to interrogate the parrot seriously and taking a friggin' metal detector to his shoulder. Which might be the luck element coming in again; because seriously, what other defense
