" Oh and when you suddenly lost your job, and you went from making 500,000 dollars and have 4 cars and prada... and you get on FUCKING FOOD STAMPS because omg you only have 15,000 dollars...
Mabye you should know that there are people that are happy if they see even a 1000 in their bank account.
All those people are so confused as to why Obama won.
Well heres the deal.
All those illiterate, poor, dumbass people that act as janitors, mcdonalds, cafeteria ladies, all the poor people that make you never ever step into a walmart, and are so dirty at the thrift stores.
Alot of those people VOTED. "
My Dad's conservative--but not the ZOMGGAYS type, much more of a libretarian. It's not that he wasn't for health care reform, but that he doesn't think the current legislation is the best way to handle it.
And he has a good point--the thing the system most needs, tort reform (ie, reducing the malpractice suits), the sens and reps won't touch.
Thanks.... yeah now that I've calmed down... a little (first time I wondered if I could watch Colbert since I wasn't certain I could take the satire).
I can understand that on the healthcare, I'm even fine with people arguing about it etc... I'm just very... very tired of seeing so many people who have it so well off getting up and talking about in equality. *sighs* Even worse when the Christian Right gets up there and goes all anti the legislation since its suppose to be what they stand for. Hypocrisy makes my head hurt (true I can be hypocrytical... but still)
I figure regardless of the problems of the bill, at least its there... the Articles/constitution was terrible when it started off... but the point was it started- and we can work with it.
...I think the fact I live in a state that's trying to sue and petition against it because of the bills "inequality" and what not might be whats bothering me the most.
Where are you reading it from? I've wanted to read it for quite some time.
My problem with it is that is too much in one document. It really should've been broken down into more (not sure how many until I read it). Need to read it but not tonight.
The government sight. Do a search for it .gov and it'll pop up with a little heading and all this stuff around it saying that it's a secure document etc.
I'm just thankful it's getting passed. It's got problems but I'd rather it start off with problems and get fixed overtime *hopefully* then keep getting shoved away until it never has a chance
I don't think they are going to be fixed. The government machine has gotten so big and clumsy that for anything to be done compromises are going to have to be made between groups and the "fix" might make things worse or make it even more complicated. That's my poli sci degree talking. It would've been better to break it up into chunks and deal with each part. And, I doubt the constitutionality of parts of it if what I've heard about it is anything to go by. For example, forcing people to have insurance or pay a fine. That probably over simplifies it but that's what people I work with think about it.
Something tells me we are not going to agree on it at all. But I can be a mature adult about it and explain why when I need to. :) And we can drop talking about it if it gets to be way to irksome.
I keep wishing there were a "dislike" button so I could dislike all the people on facebook I'm having to hide at the moment so I don't do something stupid.
And yes I completely agree with your assessments. Which is why I'm just glad we're starting somewhere at least we've obviously got a foot in the door at this point... and hey look Texas hasn't seceded yet .
although with all the hullabaloo they're making I wouldn't be surprised. So long as Austin secedes from Texas I wouldn't care all that much ^^;;.
And if it can make you feel anyway better... most people here are fully supportive of Obama's health reform, and-actually, of Obama in general. So... yeah. You're not alone in this.

This part, here, is particulary well done:

Was it the best solution? Of course not. But a good chunk of the starts of solutions are there, and the status quo certainly wasn't the best option.
We have some of the best health care facilities in the world here. If, and IF, you can afford to avail yourself of them. Most can't.
A family with GOOD insurance now can still easily be bankrupted by a major medical emergency. WTF?
