I'm glad he's as goofy as he is sexy and protective. Same for Adam. When the sexy fades and the protection is no longer necessary, they have goofy to keep each other amused. People who have been together a long time understand this, I think. You may stop feeling sexy, but you never stop loving to laugh.
I'm exploring that in the novel I'm writing, after being sure it wouldn't fit. But it does in some ways, expescially when you are trying to describe the process of angst. When people speak, they will natural turn to the second point of view when they get to something they're not sure about, ro they want distance from. It's that kind of clue. A sign of vulnerability, even on the part of the writer.
