I've forced myself to listen to a lot of Top 40 lately just to see who the competition is for Adam. As I see it, his main competitor is Bruno Mars. They have similar hair! Bruno also has a high voice but other than that, Adam's voice blows him away. That soaring voice is very much in evidence on the bridge of Better Than I Know Myself. The voice is unmistakenly Adam. It couldn't be anyone else, and no one else could sing like that.

I wouldn't call Adam and Bruno Mars competitors really.
While Adam may be able to hit all the notes, Bruno's appeal comes from how he conveys melody in his songs and makes you want to sing along. They are completely different animals.
