School Idiocy

The curriculum at school is changing as of this fall. My major (Enterprise Developer) is going away (effectively it has already) and the other developer degree (Object-Oriented Developer) is changing to simply "Software Developer". Yay you for being observant enough to know who *really* has the clues.

Agreed, the discrepancy in answers means that the problem definition needs work. And that's a real-world kind of situation: do they want total number of instances of [something], or only first instance of [something]. Getting the functional requirements defined is NOT as simple as most folks would like.

Sounds like you're doing all you can to make sure that you get what you need, efficiently, with minimum waste of your time/energy. Go you!!!

I realize that on an INVENTORY database you should need to know quantities of each, but maybe at that moment he was thinking only of titles ("There are 2 CDs by NR: All that Jazz and Alone in New Orleans ") and wasn't thinking of quantities of each (i.e. was an idiot a different way)?

The result of a communication / comprehension problem. Your teacher probably has other pressures in their life, or even just doesn't think your class is worth a lot of effort. In any case, practice at dealing nicely with this kind of situation will serve you well in corporate, as you should know, as this is the sort of boneheaded situation you will find yourself in when dealing with some person who SHOULD know what the heck they are talking about; who just happens to be above you on the totem pole. Be nice, until it is time to not be nice.

re:database - I am so used to being on a different page than my teachers then and now. It often is the fine line of being seen as very smart or very stupid (which as you've seen in turn relates to how you see them :)). It's very frustrating when I want to ask quesitons in class and they don't understand what I'm really asking and think I have problems since their answer doesn't satisfy ( ... )
