How do I get out of this mess?

Aug 18, 2006 00:30

Okay so I've been working at my job for about two months now. I'm still technically "training" because my manager is very slow when it comes to teaching people stuff. I like most of the people I work with, but I don't really like the job. It's a portrait studio at the mall. It's mostly little kids and it requires you to work extremely fast and be ( Read more... )

you should quit
jobs should only be for 2 things, learning things you want to and getting paid. if you aren't getting that then quit and dont feel bad about it.
or you could ask for a raise, if she really needs you she will give it to you.

I guess my big problem is that me quitting would mean everyone else who works there would be screwed, and I don't like making people angry. Even though I also realize that I shouldn't be concerned with them, I should be concerned with how the job makes me feel.

I guess I'm just a worry wort.

well thats how most people are i think
its just you should try and enjoy school, and not have to worry about juggleing work and school and social life until you have kids :)

it just looks like from your post that your realy not getting anything out of working there, so fuck um.

Dude. It's just a job. Quit and move on! If you don't need it, you'll go crazy trying to keep up with work and school.

I know, but I worry too much about stuff and make myself think that things are bigger deals than they really are. I think I just needed to hear more people tell me that quitting was the right choice so I didn't feel as much like a jerk once I did quit, you know?

Oh I understand :)

Like the person above me said, if the job isn't giving you the money or experience you need, and you could do without it, quit. Good luck!

i have a similar problem with my aeropostale job, but i'm pretty sure i'm just gonna quit.

Don't worry about the othe rpeople, because this job would take up toomuch of your time.

Is it really worth all the worry and stress you'll be going through?

No, it really isn't. And I still can't believe that my manager told me she didn't want me going to grad school. Not that I have definite plans to, but I'm really starting to think about it now. I think she's worked at this job since she got out of high school, and I'm pretty sure she doesn't have an outside life from this job, so she's incredibly hard to relate to about anything. She doesn't seem to understand that other people have responsibilities outside of The Picture People. And that's down right ridiculous.

I just hate confrontations with people, and she already told me "I lack the confidence I need for this job", so she's really hard to talk to. I'm going to tell her once again all of the stuff I have going on at school and my job there and say that I really don't think I can provide her with the time she needs from me.

it sounds like your manager is just trying to bring you down. you should quit and not feel bad about it. you have way better stuff to do with your time, like, finish college and go to grad school! if you don't stand up to your manager then you would only be proving her right.
(good luck!)
