Out of my league

 I finally managed to go out with the cycling group on a Sunday ride. I met the leader at 6:45 morning services, and when he informed me that the agenda for the day was hill training, I almost backed out. But I didn't.

On my last ride, my derailleur kept slipping, so I took the bike to the bike shop and they made some adjustments. Well, whatever ( Read more... )

The front and rear derailleurs each have a pair of screws, typically marked H & L (high/low), that limit how far the derailleurs can move in each direction. If the screw is too far one way, you won't be able to shift to the extreme gear. If the screw is too far the other way, the chain will be able to go past the gear and fall off. This takes trial-and-error to get right (fairly easy if the bike is on a stand so you can work the drive train freely), but it's not rocket science, so this shop isn't sounding very competent ( ... )
