Aha so... I had my CAMBRIDGE INTERVIEWS yesterday ^^

First I had a half-hour interview with two of the Japanese professors... I don't know how it went, but they asked me about why I wanted to do Japanese, why I prefered it to European languages (and why I wasn't currently studying any European langauges (>________<) ) and then random questions ( Read more... )

I am so proud of you. Cambridge! Wow! The admissions department would probably laugh if I ever sent them an application, let alone grant an interview. You have accomplished a lot more than most of the people I know regardless of their age. But, watch how you lump all Americans together. We're not all brain dead. I guess I have to go watch Borat now. I just hope it doesn't point out even more reasons to be ashamed of my country.

Thanks~!! ^^ Although I haven't got in, I just turned up and did an interview... There's still a 75% chance I'll get rejected... (0______0)

(-___________-) Sorry about that - I just edited it now. I was actually quoting this girl in my year, Rebecca, who said that 'all Americans hate it', but you're right, I'm sure many will enjoy it - much the same way many British people enjoy social satire of England. My apologies ::blushes:: It is, however, just a long attack on middle America. By pretending to be anti-semitic especially, Cohen (who is a Jew) reveals an incredible amount of anti-semitic, anti-Muslem and homophobic feelings in middle America. More than anything, it's actually frightening... (0_________0) And I'm sure that the same would be true had he filmed it in any country., and that's even more frightening...

I know. The amount of hate speech in this country under the guise of religion is astounding, especially a religion whose fundamental tenant is "Love thy neighbor" And, as a non-Christian, it's really frightening sometimes to know that the freedoms you have on paper can be taken away by your neighbors in the most insidious ways.

The same applies over here as well, that's what's scary (0___________________0) At the moment in the news is a huge row between the Church of England and the Labour party, because Labour is trying to open up all Church adoption services etc to gay couples and the Church is threatening to close all their services down rather than let them cater to gays. It seems so petty to me, really. The movie is shocking - and replace the anti-semitism with xenophobia in general and it could be England, which is even more disturbing to me, as an English viewer...

But its still very funny to see New Yorkers trying to cope with a mad Kazahkstani releasing chickens on the subway XDDD

Good luck!
I didn't know the questions where that off-topic (at least to me it is). Gah. It's kinda scary if I think about it now. Didn't you panic? D:

Thanks =D

Yeah, we're warned that for Oxbridge, thay're not looking for what you know, but how you think. Therefore you can have an amazing memory and hence be very good at exams, but if you don't have the kind of mind they're after, they won't accept you. Therefore they ask you more random and answer-less questions. The ratio is 4:1 for a place (0__________0) it's very frightening.

I didn't panic ^^ but I felt very nervous. It helps that I've got a definite place at my second choice university which I love, so even if I don't get into Cambridge, I'm going somewhere great XD!

Thanks~! :D I hope I did well. And yes, its great to think I'll be doing Japanese at university~!! I've studied it at school for just over two years now, and the more I do, the more I love it ♥ Plus, I'm actually better at it than any of my other subjects =D so it makes sense to do it at uni. Even if I don't get into Cambridge, I'll be studying it at my second choice, so my next four years are sorted XDD

Yeah, it's one of those films you either love or hate, I think. It is undeniably funny in parts, but other parts are just, well... Kinda like Austin Powers humour, but worse. Yes. I'd still recommend people seeing it though, simply because he meets some hideously bigoted people o(>_________________<)o

Eeeek Cambridge interviews!! That first one sounds complicated. Did you say that art can exist without suffering? It's all about expression etc. (in my mind), so I fail to see a reason why it can't exist without suffering.

GOOD LUCK anyway ;D I'm sure you did great. You appear to be Super!Student, anyway. They would be very stupid not to accept you in my opinion. I've been looking at uni courses and it's really scary. I wish there were courses at Cambridge that really appealed to me, but there aren't really. I might go for Engineering, but we'll see. I loved the atmosphere at Cambridge whenever I visited my sister, and it's really depressing that they don't do any of the courses I want to. Not that they'd let me in...

Interhouse Arts is the devil incarnate, I tell you. IT NEEDS TO DIIIE. We have House Song this year, and trying to make the house enthusiastic is just...impossible!! Our year is responsible for it this year, and it's not going well. The performances are on Wednesday, and...I'm just hoping it's not completely and ( ... )

People keep asking me what I said to the questions, and I really can't remember any more (0_____________0) I don't think that's a good thing.

Thanks~! ::hugs:: I do have the grades required, but it is a bit of a lottery nowadays. If I didn't impress in the interview, they might well reject me. But whatever. =D I recommend applying somewhere you like the course - a very intelligent friend of mine didn't apply to Oxbridge because she didn't like their vetinary courses, and I think she did the right thing. After all, the course is really more important than the university.
(Although if I do get accepted, I will obviously be urging you to apply to Cambridge XDDD )

Interhouse Arts = teh suck, at least during practices. When you're watching the performances of other houses, it can be very entertaining X3 as this year's was. But no, when your own house performs, it is one of the most embarassing things ever. And it turns everyone into competitive bitches, wtf (x____X);; Eh. Good luck with yours~!!! ♥ ::comforts you::
