LOTR was such a big part of my life back in the day, so even though I never cared as much about The Hobbit, seeing Middle-Earth and hearing that music is a massive jolt straight to the nostalgia center of the brain. omgggggggg why is it not a year from now yet D: D: D:
I was never really in the fandom, although I did lurk on forums every now and then and feel deeply inadequate because (at first) I had only seen the first movie and not read any of the books. Fanfic and such weren't really on my radar at that point. But the fact that I still have a ROTK poster and two illustrations of Pippin hanging on my bedroom walls is a pretty good indicator of what a great time I had. *g*
Martin Freeman looks like Billy Boyd? I don't see it myself, mostly because I am blinded by Martin Freeman. That man is going to be in every significant British literary adaptation, isn't he.
I believe the reason it's taking so long is that they're doing what they did with LOTR, namely, filming both the movies in one go. Plus the amount of CGI they'll have to do is staggering (note that they didn't show Smaug in the trailer at all, though that's probably because I bet he's not in the first movie). So I don't begrudge them their time, even if it makes me twitchy to have to wait so long.
Mel (and you) will probly disown me but i am utterly unaware of who Martin Freeman is ... every time i hear his name my brain kneejerks to Morgan Freeman and i go "Wait, what? No, no, no, that's not right..." ;D . o O ("Easy Reader Ringwraith?" sayeth W.. i fall over ;P)
Ohyes, i agree wholeheartedly with you on that... i'm just being Harena Impatient Ferret Atria over here ;D
(Unrelatedly, i just finally actually got yours and your mum's soap in the mail, uhm, today? So maybe you'll get it before, uhhh, the New Year? <.<)
Martin Freeman's been around for a while, but as of late he's made a name for himself first as Arthur in the Hitchhiker's Guide movie and then more recently John Watson in Sherlock, both of which he pulled off admirably. I suspect he's especially proud of this role, though, given that in an interview he said something along the lines of "Famous roles aren't necessarily better ones, but I'm the fucking Hobbit". *g*

Also, man, I miss LotR fandom. It was one of my favorites. Great balance of crack, nerdy discussions, and gorgeous fanwork.

Three Observations:
1) Young Bilbo looks too much like Pippin (though, there is related blood in there, so maybe that's okay).
2) One of those dwarves made me go, "Wait. How'd George Harrison get in there???" (Mel concluded that he reincarnated as a dwarf ;D)
and
3) HOW CAN THEY BE THAT FAR ALONG IN THE MOVIE TO MAKE SUCH A TRAILER BUT STILL NOT HAVE IT READY TILL NEXT YEAR??? D:
