I'D ALWAYS SORT OF HOPED FOR IT, IN THAT WELL-IT'LL-NEVER-HAPPEN-BUT-IT-WOULD-BE-AWESOME-IF-IT-DID WAY, BUT NOW IT IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING AND BASICALLY I HAVE BEEN SPAZZING ALL DAY LONG.

Who is this Jo Grant person and why is everyone so excited about them?

Okay.

Jo Grant was a companion of the third Doctor, as seen in futuresoon's icon. She was kinda like a wannabe spy who is assigned to UNIT and in turn assigned to The Doctor.

She was a perky happy girl and kind of more "actiony" than the Doctor's previous companion Liz Shaw, who was a scientist. She left the Doctor when she got married to a Welsh scientist called Cliff Jones at the end of The Green Death. And the companion after her was Sarah Jane Smith. You know who that is :p

What flying_girl73 said, but throw in the knowledge that Jo generally isn't considered to be one of the best companions--she was fond of go-go boots, she did her share of screaming, she wasn't particularly science-oriented, and, of course, she left the Doctor for another man. (Everyone knows that the only way to leave the Doctor must involve as much trauma as possible, and you are not allowed to be well-adjusted about it at all.)

Those who know better, though? Realize that Jo is awesome. She saved the Doctor as often as he saved her, she learned how to resist the Master's attempts to hypnotize her, she even got to be snarky at the Master a number of times (and was very wry about his relationship with the Doctor, hem hem)--hell, at one point she manages to get the Doctor to tell her about his childhood. That's right. She got Mr. Avoid-My-Backstory-As-Much-As-Possible to talk about his childhood. Basically, she is one of my favorite companions ever, she is the companion associated with the original Master, and she is much, much more capable than ( ... )
