Okay, so. I understand that obviously the characters in Full Metal Alchemist wouldn't have had any idea, what with being in an alternate history and all, but were there ever any fans who even remotely suspected that a charismatic military leader named the Fuhrer wouldn't turn out to be rather dubious?

Also, man, forget injury-to-the-eye motif; this ( Read more... )

injury to the arm motif wtf, fullmetal alchemist, i like anime apparently

The arm loss in that series really is ridiculous. So man, how far along are you now?

Well, let's see...I'm going to watch one more episode tonight, then get some sleep because I have to do homework in the morning, but after that I'll probably watch a few more. So that'll be...all of them?

...what, like you never had a free evening and decided "hey, it'd be a fun idea to watch five straight hours of Full Metal Alchemist"?

YOU ARE A BEAST. And don't worry, I've powered through shows like that too. I think I did it with the second half of FMA, actually. 8D;;

Okay, so you'll probably be happy to hear that I'm totally all for Roy/Hughes now. Because that new bit in the opening sequence where Roy is staring moodily with a glass of whiskey and a picture of him and Hughes is killer. But I still have this perverse desire for some terribly kinky Roy/Ed porn. It's not my fault, they just happen to line up with three of my guiltier kinks all at once, okay. But Roy/Hughes is totes adorable, so. Probably you'll have to link me to some stuff once I finish. Yeah.

How many times can one guy lose an arm? How many?

Um. Twice?

Not if after the first time you get a robotic replacement, no. (Some other guy only loses twice, though. In the regular fashion. Poor fellow.)

First thought: oh no they didn't. Who makes this stuff?

Second thought: Also, "Führer" means "Leader", so pray tell me they didn't use that as a name instead of a pretentious title.

Conclusion: I'm hardwired to be a pedantic nitpicker.

*shuffles off to Fanficrants where someone has just discovered that Schindler's List fanfic exists and is horrified; clearly, they do not know about Full Metal Alchemist*

It's a title, not a name, and--well, I was going to say, he doesn't set up concentration camps or anything, but there is kinda this subplot about the military subjugating (and pretty much slaughtering) the inhabitants of a particular city/religion/skin and eye color, so...uh...at least he never says they're an inferior race? Does that help? I think the Nazis in the movie are completely unrelated to him. It's kinda an alternate-universe thing, and I'm not sure he exists in it.
