Every day I feel like I'm leveling up towards adulthood.

It probably says something about me that I'm seeing all this in video game terms; it is like, you have gained 200 EXP! You have learned Cooking Grown-Up Dishes With Real Actual Ingredients! You have learned Driving On Your Own! You have learned Bank Accounts And Credit Cards! (With the ( Read more... )

video games, my life and welcome to it, yes i am really very odd

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't feel like an adult until last year. at 23 years old it seemed perfectly logical to say, well, sure, I'm a teenager, the numbers of my age just don't reflect it yet!

Here at 24, it's much harder to deny. I'm an adult.

Oddly enough, with 25 aproaching, it seems less big. 25 is Young Adult, I can live with that. 24 is like, "Yeah, no really, you ARE an adult." and you don't even notice the Young part in between the words there

I've gotten off topic.

You don't need to be an Adult to be self-sufficient, don't worry too much!

... as someone who is also 24, I can relate, despite not even being self-sufficient.

Yeah, but you-after-high-school still lived in the same environment and knew the same people as before--whereas I will be over a thousand miles from anyone I've ever met, in a place I've only visited for three days. With a change that big, I can't be the exact same person I was. So...I guess I have to grow up a little more. It's not really that scary, it's just...odd. Very odd.

I have been cooking for myself for... slightly under a year now. Something that I've found to be simple, yet tasty: poultry + jar of fruit spread/preserves + spices + baking, covered with foil = tasty.

Combinations that I have found to work: Chicken + apricot jam/preserves + half an onion + lots of powdered ginger + a bit of powdered garlic + a bit of white or cayenne pepper + a bit of nutmeg

Turkey + plum jam/preserves + lots of garlic powder. This one I made Friday night. I suspect it would've been improved with a bit of green onion on top, but I was running out of time and didn't think of it then. It was still tasty, though.

Also something I've found: When baking chicken, for moister chicken, bake it 'bone side' up for chicken breasts and thighs and such. Essentially, have the majority of the meat soaking in the sauce while it bakes. It doesn't look as pretty when coming out of the oven in the pan, but it tastes better, and you can always flip it over to serve.

I also think of life skills in terms of levelling-up. ( ... )

i think there is a big difference between Being Mature & Being Self-Sustaining... plenty of self-sustaining people out there that are as about as mature as five year old. *nods sagely*

But up until recently, I'd only been one; now, I'm leaning towards being both, which I think is what adulthood is supposed to be about. It is just...weird to think about.

Ahyar.. *nods*

Heh, i am amused 'cause my experience at the same point in my life, involved me looking forward to that moment where that magical switch flipped that converts Children into Adults. Yes, i really had no clue how "growing up" worked; thought you suddenly Knew Everything. Twas how well i was raised. :P

So, i guess, appreciate your awareness of such things, 'cause some of us remain clueless! ;)
