the background would have to be in some kind of rainbow pattern

Speaking in a purely theoretical manner, mind you, were there to be some sort of ridiculously large picture featuring all the major slash pairings I can think of, 1) would femslash be included, because really I can only think of Buffy/Faith and they'd be very lonely if they were the only ones, and 2) would Captain Jack Harkness have to be there ( Read more... )

x-files, art, smallville, i like television, supernatural, heroes, good god that's a lot of tags, omg petrellis, life on mars, due south, the sentinel, apparently i really like the master, house, stargates of one kind or another, all things joss whedon, doctor who, star trek, torchwood, gay gay gay, yes i am really very odd

Hm. I'd like Ianto to be included, but honestly, just including Jack could be persuasively argued for. Are you just using television pairings? Because if not, you're going to have to include HP in some way. You just must. I'd stick with just tellie, because otherwise it's going to be like Les Demoiselles d'Avignon or something.

Oooohhh, right, books and things...see, I was vaguely thinking that movie fandoms tend to be rather small, but I hadn't even thought of HP. Or Good Omens, gah. Good Lord, how many large slash pairings does HP have? I suspect that I would indeed just stick with TV.

Duncan/Methos is the biggest Highlander slash pairing, and yes, it's easily as popular as the others.

Jack/Ianto: does not interest me at all but is undeniably what 95% of Torchwood fanfiction gets written about, so yes, it's probably fair to include them.

Femmeslash pairings: well, the biggest one is Xena/Gabrielle. As in really, really big; Xena fandom in its heyday easily surpassed its parent show, Hercules fandom, and though there were some het pairings written about, the absolute majority of fanfiction was Xena/Gabrielle. Also popular: Janeway/Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager), Susan Ivanova/Talia Winters (Babylon 5, and that one is actually on sceen canon), and I hear Grey's Anatomy has a pairing called Meredith/Christina, but I don't watch the show, so I wouldn't know how popular it is.

And may I say: I'm very heartened that you take offense at the UNIT portrayal. This past week, it worried me that New Who and TW fans seemed to buy it unquestioningly.

Xena/Gabrielle! Right! It'd be a crying shame to miss that one. How popular were the others, though? I haven't heard of them at all (well, I recognize the names, mostly, but not the pairings).

Re: UNIT: when I started watching the episode, I vaguely remembered you mentioning that you didn't like a certain part of it, and I kept wondering what it was, because as far as I could tell this was a pretty good episode, and then I got to the bit with Tosh, and I thought, oh. Yeah, that's probably it. And then I realized I really, really didn't like it either. I hold out hope for their return in DW, though--surely RTD, fanboy extraordinaire, wouldn't mess with the old gang like that.

The Grey's Anatomy one I only know about because I have rozk on my flist, so I couldn't say, not being in the fandom. Janeway/Seven in Voyager as I recall wasn't as big as Janeway/Chacotay or Paris/Torres, but it was the third largest ship in Voyager fandom. (With the caveat that my Trek expertise is more for DS9 and TNG - Voyager more peripherally, but I did watch most of the show and got around in online fandom for a while.) Talia/Susan is definitely one of the biggest 'ships in B5 fandom. B5 fandom, alas, is not one of the biggest fandoms, but it's there and present more than a decade after the show got cancelled, so ( ... )

I think I'll limit it to one ship per show, so, alas, Willow and Tara must make way. Also, they were actual canon. Which bumps out Talia/Susan as well, I'm afraid...damn, this whole thing is more complicated than I thought. *head is muzzy from logistics*

I read 'Fragments of Phonecalls' from your recslist, yeah--and I am thoroughly willing to believe that it is 100% accurate (except maybe that I think Toshiko stayed there for a bit more than three days, judging by her level of apathy towards the end).

From Gossip Girl, I nominate Chuck/Nate and from The O.C. Ryan/Seth.
And I'm strongly thinking of giving up on Torchwood altogether after this week. And in small part because it felt like it was spitting in the face of dear old Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart who would never have tolerated such shenanigans on his watch.

PS: Also Tamaki/Kyouya from Ouran High School Host Club. A show that you really must watch if you haven't seen it. Eryslash & Fiorediloto introduced the show to me and I've totally fallen in love with it.

Originally, I was thinking, "no, we'll just stick to the big pairings", and then I realized I don't actually know the big pairings for a lot of shows, what with not watching them at all, so I suspect I shall indeed have to throw Gossip Girl and The O.C. in there. And, aw, don't give up on Torchwood! It's gotten so much better! Honestly, I strongly suspect the UNIT bit was just Chris Chibnall being an asshole. Surely RTD wouldn't let them go so pointlessly nasty.

I have seen Ouran! It is amazing. Though I do kind of get the feeling that if you slash it, you're missing the point. Which does not actually stop me from slashing it, mind; they call each other 'mother' and 'father', for Christ's sake.

I know exactly what you mean. Still, I prefer to see it as getting into the spirit of the show, given that it has a habit of making jokes about a theme and then tackling it seriously too.
Plus, I could bore for England by going on and on with examples where my little OTP is supported by the text. But I will spare you.

That was basically the sum of my argument! I mean, he doesn't need a specific partner, he's a one-man slash band all by himself. He is the symbol of slash. He could be fandom's mascot!

Mylar?

And if you include American Idol, Rymon.
