James was waiting for Lily to get home. Severus and Harry were in the front room and also waiting. It was hard enough keeping a eleven-year-old occupied at the best of times but even worse when said eleven-year-old knew something was up; as well as being excited for Hogwarts school in less than a month's time

On the bright side indeed. Severus knew logically, that the hierarchy of 'adults who can refuse to tell Harry what he wants to wheedle out of them' went himself, Lily, and James bringing up the rear; but really, how long did they expect him to play exploding snap for?!

Lily couldn't wait to get home and show Harry his surprise. Well, it was James' and Sev's surprise to show but she would be there! She nearly squealed on the spot, barely managing to contain herself as she unlocked the front door.

"Hello! Anybody home?" She giggled and shut the door behind her. "Where are my favourite men?"

Harry was just beating Severus at exploding snap when he heard his mother some through the door. He wanted to go out but he wasn't sure if he was allowed to. Everyone was being rather strange and it made him wonder why his sister wasn't here.

"I'm in here, Mum!" He shouted, thinking that would be safer than going to see her.

James watched Lily come through the front door and thanked Merlin.

"There you are." He hissed. "You're late!" He was more nervous than angry. "Did you drop Sarah off alright? Are you sure this is a good idea?"

He was still pacing as Harry shouted from the front room.

"There's no going back, is there?"
