Leto was tuning the baliset, relieved that the instrument now seemed to have adapted to a colder and more humid climate. And after all, this was more what it had originally been used to. Caladan was nothing like Arrakis.

She was intending to visit Leto anyway, but Alice would have stopped regardless when she heard the song. She lingered in the doorway, hoping that her presence wasn't intrusive, though had he wished for privacy, one would imagine he would not have left the door open.

Noticing Alice standing there, Leto looked up and smiled at her, while continuing to play. She was welcome to enter of course.

As the last chord had faded, he got to his feet, leaning the baliset against the table.

She moved closer, hesitant, and feeling a bit as though the song had made her float, not walk.

"I sincerely hope I'm not interrupting," she said, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "That was ... beautiful."
