I get that a lot - my older stuff getting more comments than my newer writings, when I clearly know my newer writings (bar the ones written this year, because those suck balls) are better. But then again I think it suffers from the whole 'fandom' syndrome - most of my older stuff belong to bigger fandoms, but the stuff I wrote during what I deemed by 'golden era' (thus far) were stuff belonging to almost-obscure fandoms (or things no one gives twofucks about
( ... )
Golden era aahh, we all had that time period I'm sure. And as everyone has said, I think this all boils down to FANDOMS. Right now I'm into REALLY obscure and niche things that not many people give two hoots about, and due to my lack of time for myself I haven't been able to churn out anything substantial for the past year either.
That is a good point; and I will keep that in mind. Yeah I do admit I tend to get emotional really easily and lose sight of what's right for a couple of moments, till folks like you guys slap some sense back in. ;D And looking back, I think it's because the subject matter of my older works were all popular things hence why they turn up frequently in search engines and whatnot. Honestly I wouldn't want to go back and be stagnant, but just move on and continue improving from now on. ;DD
from what i know on DA.. the more popular your work is..the more popular it will get. like if u got 100favs for an old work, and 2 favs for the new one, the old one will keep getting more faves. Because the old artwork is being circulated more around DA, therefore more people see it.(and fav it again)
NOT,MOST DEFINATLY NOT because your new works arent as good as your old works. Memang original works and characters wont get as much attention at first. I think even for popular or established artist, their fanart will always get more favs/comemnts compared to their original works no matter how godlike they are.
so liek....its the DA0 system's fault. I dont think its because of your skills or anything. no way you can graduate from TOA + one year of work experience and have your old works be better than your new ones.
No wonder, I never understood DA's system after it started to evolve and I just lost track. D; Cause I really did wonder why people had access or they tend to notice the older stuff more?
And yea, I know fanart > original work always sobs I guess it's like everyone said, it's probably due to the popularity of the subject matter. (and don't worry I will be blind and lying to myself if I think that my old stuff looked better than what it is now OTL)
S'alright, when you guys put it into that perspective (which I did not see at all); I feel that it's something that shouldn't bother me at all. I suppose if we remained stagnant and didn't change in ten years, THEN that's something to worry about. :P
And yes, I suppose it is some form of comfort that even waaaaaay back then, people did like my stuff and 10 years later, they still do. So I'll just improve from here on out!
Outright bitching?! Whoah that is pretty damned rude. :|
But yeah you're right, people's tastes is something we can't control and likewise we may not like the things they do as well. And if you ask me I won't go back either, I shudder when I look at my old stuff... but it remains as a fact that I once drew the way I did and have come a ways from there, so here's to constantly improving (and caring less about what people think in my case ;~;)!
Yeah, that IS true now that you point it out! I do go through my favs at times and I wonder, what it is it even doing there but sometimes it could be that at one point of time I thought that it was really awesome... same goes with some of the fanarts that I've saved from a long time ago. Likewise I rarely fav things easily too, unless it really grabs my attention or something then I do.
Ohhh Kaneko eh... yeah not many people would take to his art easily (especially his older works) and even until now, only a small group really appreciate his art (as opposed to Soejima's).
And haha yeah it is very ironic indeed---- but I guess that's the case with most of us. But that view whereby they're still faving YOUR stuff, that's a really good way to look at it. And I'm not gonna let something so menial get me down, don't worry :D (and likewise I know I have improved, oh gods when I look at my old stuff I feel like diving into a pile of pillows out of shameeeeee)
