Hey, I just got my acceptance letter to UW-Platteville today, and I'm planning on majoring in criminal justice and psychology. Would you mind telling me about the criminal justice program they have there and what you like/dislike about the college? Also, what are housing options like? I have to wait until February to actually visit.

I hope you don't mind me doing this. I'm really curious, and I figure that if I ask the staff, they'll just make it seem better than it actually is.

I tried to send this in a message, but apparently it was too long, so here you.

I'm actually a psych minor as well. I really love the CJ program here. It's probably one of the best programs in the mid-west for criminal justice. As far as classes go, you'll have to take some core requirements which include: Intro to CJ, Police Function, Correctional Philosophy, Criminal Law and Seminar. Then you take whatever electives you think look interesting. I highly recommend doing an internship. It's worth 8 credits and it's an amazing experience.

As far as housing goes, you will have to live in the dorms for the first year at least. I never lived in the dorms, I stayed with family, but they are nice for dorms. After that if you want you can live off campus, but you don't have to.

What was your internship like?

My internship was amazing. I spent it with Victim Witness Services in Sheboygan County. I spent most of my time in court and another good portion of the time dealing with victims. It was a worth-while experience. What area of criminal justice / psychology are you looking into?
