So, before you label me a bigot, or a hate monger, hear me out. I voted against Prop 8. I all truthfulness, I'd have rather that it failed. But, lemonade out of lemons and all that, let me tell you why the passing of Prop 8 will actually be, in the long run, better for America ( Read more... )

I think that's very insightful and I'm glad you brought it up. I actually feel that the No on 8 campaign would have had a stronger case if they'd focused more on issue of legality than of morality. However (and I hate to be such a downer, but) the nation is not ready to take on this issue. If we can't secure equality for all orientations in California, I don't think we can do it for the rest of the country. Which is why the lawsuits being brought against Prop 8 are avoiding federal constitutional claims.I do believe that this issue will eventually make it's way to the US Supreme Court and I do believe that it will eventually need to. I agree with the legality vs morality thing. Religion can be a very big part of marriage. It can have a massive part, it can have no part, it's different depending on the beliefs of the individuals getting married to each other. The thing that is always constant about it is that it is a legal contract combining two lives together. Marriage isn't about a man and a woman and a good portion of the time isn't even about love. It's about opening up to another person and essentially becoming one with them.
